The F-82 was a long range heavy fighter heavily armed. Its double cockpit gave the possibility to the pilots to exchanging during the long journeys.

would be nice if we could get the f-82's as part of the '46 add on. since they we're getting the trin 109's.

would be nice to see especially if they are adding the 109z, i dont really like these planes since they didnt see much combat. I have a feeling olegs going to dogg the p38j badly giving it the 109z to be competetive against he has with all the us fighters

Can U imagine the arguments during and after a dogfight?

"Left"
"No! Right!"
"I said left!"
"Bloody Right!"

Bam Bam Bam!

Cut to both pilots hanging below their chutes...

"I told you so!"
"No I told YOU so!"

etc etc

F-82's saw service in Korea and recorded several kills.

Without looking it up, IIRC, the type looked like two Mustangs put together, but didn't really have all that many interchangeable parts with P-51's.

Put a 108 round right between the center wings and you got two mustangs to deal with http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

From the USAF Archives:
North American F-82
"Twin Mustang"
The F-82 was the last propeller-driven fighter acquired in quantity by the USAF. It appears to be two Mustang fuselages on one wing, but in reality it was a totally new design. Its purpose was to provide a fighter carrying a pilot and co-pilot/navigator to reduce fatigue on long-range bomber ecsort missions. Delivery from production did not begin until early 1946, too late for WW II. After WW II, radar-equipped F-82s were used quite extensively by the Air Defense Command as replacements for the P-61 night fighter.
During the Korean Conflict, Japan-based F-82s were among the first USAF aircraft to operate over Korea. The first three North Korean airplanes destroyed by U.S. forces were shot down by all-weather F-82G interceptors on June 27, 1950.

yeah but this is NOT the standard F-82. from what i understand is that this is a hybrid model. the base f-82 didnt have the huge external gun pod in the middle. i dont think there is another WWII era fighter in the world with so many guns. P-38...maybe. but 14 12.7 mm guns. lol
spray & pray baby spray & pray. Hell you almost cant miss them. and the location of the guns is centerd in the middle...would be a nice tight pattern. i'd like to see what a 190 would look like after a 3 sec burst form this baby at about 150m! wow

LOL! But actually one (left one AFAIK) of the pilots was tasked only with flying the long, boring and exhausting distances, the other one was the 'chief'. He took off, landed, and performed all the combat.

The gun nacelle under the semi compartement of the wings looks much smaller on the picture as on the drawing... How's that?

It's certainly a lot of guns, but it's not
that excessive in terms of destructive power
compared to cannon. 5 20mm cannon (the rough
equivalent of 14 .50s) would have weighed
rather less.

The standard P51 is a beautiful bird, but I'm
not sure any of these twin hull planes (F82,
109Z, He111Z) really work for me. It just looks
a bit too odd for some reason. Hell of a range
on that F82, though!

to me the thing on the drawing looks more like a radar nacelle, i think its another version, a nightfighter or something else.

generally i find these zwilling/twin planes ugly, two engines in one fuselage look better, like the do335 has it, and its armament in the Zerstoerer/heavy fighter version would suit me pretty well: 3mk 103 + 2 mg151/15, you know, the 109f2 nose "cannon"...

You want a Twin-Mustang!

Ask for a Korean conflict sim!

Cheers,

i dont want a Korean combat sim. lol
if it were doner it would be part of the WHAT IF add on that rumored to be in the works. like the 109Z twin.
it never flew in WWII but it roled out in 1945. so it is a WWII era aircraft. Besideds im not even saying i really want this plane in FB.....but it would be nice to play with. lol
