First off, I fully acknowledge that the flight models in BF:1942 are thin and arcadeish. Though different planes (Corsair, SPD) handle approriately different. The large battles with 30 or more human players, flying planes, shooting AAA, repairing ships, fighting infantry on land and on board, makes for a very immersive and dynamic gaming experience. Sure the planes carry way too much ammo but there are no AI planes to make up for fewer numbers of planes. Carrier landings and takeoffs while under fire are the norm. Rudder and aerilons operate effectively for use by a IL-2 FB trained pilot. In fact, depending on your FB skills, you would rule the skies if not for the deadly accurate human AAA. Graphics detail is high since objects are designed to be viewed up close by FPS players.

My favorite map is the Coral Sea carrier battle. Its different from most other BF1942 maps in that the objective is simply to sink the enemies carrier (no flags to capture and hold) I also like it cause there is an ample supply of planes for pilots. Protecting and repairing your carrier is key. Gameplay is fast and furious with no long flights. Only thing missing are torpedo planes. What do you think?

I find it opposite your experience if I try to fly a plane in BF1942. Infact just the inability to look around is about the biggest limitation there is to a pilot. Yes the FM are differnt, but honestly they only have about 4 FM as it is hence no real advantages. Coral sea was a fun map but I would rather man an aa than taint my flying. Pity cause they could have done more with the planes with a bit more effort.

you are comparing il2:fb to bf1942? i stopped playing bf1942 cuz of how bad that game was. The plane physics are laughable. You are able to do hover landings and hover takeoffs. The planes dont stall, and all the fighters behave the same, all the bombers behave the same, etc. There is nothing but on the deck flying since u cant see past about 300 yards. 30 bombs to a plane. finally idiots fill up the online servers. I like the concept of bf1942 (do anything you want) and while the ground combat could be made realistic via mods (forgotten hope), i wish there was an ounce of realism while flying.

I can't fly planes in BF1942. Controls are horrible, and there's almost no space and time to aim or simply head for a particular spot in map.

Maps are too small in all 3d directions, and you spend most of the time trying not to crash or turning to avoid exiting the gaming zone.

In all servers all the nerds run stupidly to the planes and kill each other trying to get one instead of playing as a team and try to conquer or defend flags. It's a ashaming thing to see them using jeeps and bikes to win a race for the spawning aircraft and then the losing ones shooting at a bomber as it goes away with just a guy in its crew. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/351.gif

Even if tanks are sitting ducks for planes, I enjoy much more playing on the ground. I'm a specialist in plane hunting, and I'm pretty good downing them with bazookas when they try to strafe me, or just try to fry another weirdo in his strafing thing. I also go for the usual chuting lad that thinks he's made a genial undercover intrusion bailing out over your base... http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-tongue.gif

I also play ambush hit and run tactics, and I'm an evil sniper -jumping like having a spring up your b*tt won't save you, and, och, I hate the 'jumping' fellas, they ruin the realism and immersion.

In BF1942, planes are for how-cool-I-am kids. Be a man and play on foot. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/59.gif

Original BF1942 is a joke, but the Forgotten Hope mod for it makes it a really fun game. Iwo Jima and Wake Island are very cool in that game. They also added Makin, Saipan, Adak Island. However most of the new stuff still goes to ETO (maps, vehicles, weapons, etc). Still it is fun to play and see the cool SNLF uniforms and you can fly the George and I think they added with Wildcat to Wake or maybe it was always there, don't remember.

The site seems down atm for me, anyway it is here www.fhmod.com (http://www.fhmod.com)
