hi all

within a couple of months i'll be leaving my beloved country Holland and go to Romania. you might all wonder what a Dutch guy is going to do in Romania. well i'll tell you. i'm a single guy /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-sad.gif but i happen to know that Romania has some of the most beautiful women in the whole world. all you Romanian FB players probobly already know that /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif (i could post a pic as proof (if ya like) but i ain't got a server to host the pic/i/smilies/16x16_smiley-sad.gif ) so i'm going there to meet a beautiful girl. anyway the reason why i make this post is to ask if any of you (Romanian) guys/gals know a good museum with WW2 airplanes. my final goal will be Cluj-Napoca and there's a small chance that i might go to Bucharest too. if everything goes as planned i'll be staying there for a month. ey maybe i even meet a fellow FB player over there./i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif
thx in advance

btw does anyone knows in which patch the Fokker D.XXI will be? (just a bad attempt to keep the post FB related/i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif )

The best one I can think of would be National Military Museum in the heart of Bucharest ( http://muzeu.mapn.ro/index.htm)

As for girls, yes, most beautiful I've ever seen... but I hope you'll consider the risk of ending up with someone interested not in you - but just getting the hell out of there only. /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-sad.gif Best of luck to you!

Yeah, the U.S. has huge trouble with goldiggers from Eastern block beauties, it appears (I hope) that this is not your situation.

But I'm jealous about the prospect of seeing Romania+ the Museum, I'd really love to see Europe,Russia,.... some day.

NP, I guess what you would mainly be interested in would be the address, right? I dug out a few other museums:

Muzeul Aviatiei (Aviation Museum)
Addres: str. Bucuresti-Ploiesti 40

Muzeul Militar National (National Military Museum)
Adresa: str. M.Vulcanescu 125-127

Muzeul National Cotroceni (Cotroceni National Museum)
Adresa: bd. Geniului 1

I would give you directions, but there's too many variables involved... best you let your girl ask, if she doesn't know how to get there already.

all you have to do is pack all the stuff that you need (clothes, money etc. etc. etc.) make a reservation in a hotel(or bcome friends with a beautiful gal so you can stay at her place, like me/i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif ) buy a plane ticket
step into the plane and get off the plane when it arrives in Romania/i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif and leave again after 30 days (90 days if you're a Dutch citizen/i/smilies/16x16_smiley-tongue.gif )

Well, I'm in Romania as I type, and I can tell you this: if you like driving, don't move to Bucharest. Although it's hard to believe, the roads in this city have actually become worse since I was last here (2000). My poor Ford, which my brother-in-law has been using the past three years, was in pretty sad shape. I've spent the first three days of my vacation, and 17 million lei ($525), at the autoshop. At least the car is usuable now.

Some of the potholes here can swallow small vehicles, so don't rent a Tico.

As for the women: yes, they are among the most beautiful in the world (and, as you've probably guessed from the brother-in-law statement above, my wife is Romanian). The country is in the midst of a really bad heatwave, so the women are wearing next-to-nothing...now that I think of it, I guess it's a good thing the car has been in the shop, 'cuz all the distractions on the sidewalk would've caused me to have an accident for sure. The 'eye candy' here really is unbelievable.

If you do go to Bucharest, and you find yourself without your lady from Cluj, go to the Salsa II Disco (very nice /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif ). If you come with your lady, and she likes to dance (most Romanian women do), the Salsa II is still a good choice. Don't go to the Herastrau Disco, which is a meat market (unless that's what you want). In terms of food, check out Terasa Doamnei, across from the Romanian National Bank. It serves traditional Romanian fare, has a nice floor show, and the prices are reasonable--which means 'regular' Romanians go there to eat, so it's not a total tourist trap. To enhance the atmosphere, the owner keeps ducks, peac*cks, a goat, etc., which wander around the restaurant. His staff is very good about cleaning up after the animals, so you don't have to worry about that aspect of it.

I'll be in Cluj later next week. I just talked with a friend from there, who told me not too much has changed there in the last three years. My guess is that your gal will take you to see some of the tourist attractions around the city. If you get tired of that, and you want to escape the heat, go to Diesel, which is on the main square (near the Hungarian Church). It has a really nice bar in its cellar, and it's relatively cool down there. I'm not sure if the Matei Corvin Restaurant is still open (it used to be called the "Intim"), but check it out if it is. Imho, it has the best food in Cluj. The ciorba de burta (tripe soup) is very good, as is the tocanita taraneasca (peasant stew) with mamaliga (cornmeal mush).

I'll be going by the National Military Museum later today, just to see if anything has changed. It is well worth a visit, if only to see the IAR 80. You can get there easily via the metro. Just get off at the Eroilor station, then walk up (NW) the Splai (a huge, unfinished buidling, Casa Radio, will be on your right) until you get to a stoplight. Go right at the light, walk up the street (Noica), cross Calea Plevnei, and the Museum will a be on your right, across from the Military Hospital (Spitalul Militar).

Just fyi: AeroMagazin has just launched "Aviata Romana in timpul celui de-al doilea razboi mondial" (The Romanian Airforce during the Second World War). The cover looks good, but I haven't been able to locate the actual book yet. If you're interested in Romanian military aviation, you may want to pick it up. I'll drop by the publisher if I can't locate it at any of the bookstores. The publisher, Romec Press, is at Str. Judetului nr. 15, bl. 17, ap. 169-170, Sector 2, Bucuresti, near the Circ (Circus).

i've got another question if you don't mind ofcourse. how's the knowledge of the english language amongst the Romanian people? cause with the exception of a couple of words i don't speak the Romanian language.

WAY TO GO DUDE!
Listen , I'm born also in Romania and I live for awhile time in Netherlands. If you have any questions you can PM me any time. Oh , follow cuski's advices , he's 100 % right regarding the museums.
For the other part , I don't need to show how beautiful Romanian women are. All you need is to check for yourself , you might be surprised. In the good way. And listen up here , Romanian and Hungarian girls are the best in da whole world! That's my oppinion...

i totally agree with you, although i've never been there bfore. it's one of the main reasons that i'm going there i know a couple of young women in Cluj. there are the sweetest, most friendly and most beautiful women that i know. nothing from what i've seen bfore in my life (real life and tv) can compare to those young ladies.

"Usuable" is a typo, Rat. It should've been written 'usable'. Stiu *** e cu tine...tu trebuie sa tii cont de 'punctajul' tau fata de altii. Ma rog, poti nota inca un 'punct' daca asta te face sa te simti bine.

************************************************** **

Just got back from the Military Museum. If you go and you want to take pictures, let the ticket agent know. It's 10.000-lei a picture--she'll check to see how many pics you've taken when you get ready to leave. A digital camera is best, 'cuz you can delete pics that don't want to keep and save some money.

You also need to let the ticket agent know that you want to see the 'sala de avioane' (aviation exhibition), because it may be locked, which was the case when I was there. The ticket agent sent a guy out to look for the woman with the key to the exhibition, so I ended up waiting for about ten minutes to get in.

Forgot to respond to your questions, Fokkerg:

1. Many folks, particularly the younger ones, know English. Romanians are very talented at learning foreign languages. In the mid '90s, Romanians' TOEFL scores were higher than those of any other nationality, with the exception of the Dutch.

2. No, I'm not Romanian. I was born in the United States.

The National Military Museum has the following WWII aircraft on display:
- Fleet F 10G (the only one in Europe)
- Nardi FN 305 (the only one in the world IIRC)
- a 1:1 model of an IAR-80; unfortunately only the tail is an exact replica; the rest contains a lot of mistakes

The Aviation Museum is outside of Bucharest, near the Otopeni International Airport. The adress of sos. Bucuresti-Ploesti nr 40 is old.But it is more like a military unit, than a museum. It also has an IAR-80 replica, but again with flaws.

Romanian women have that effect on many nationalities /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-tongue.gif ... I used to work at the Cernavoda Nuclear Power Plant, with canadians, italians, south americans, etc.... Needless to say most of them ended up marrying romanian women. And if they were already married... well.... they got a divorce first. /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-tongue.gif

I was born in Romania 18 years ago.
Its really a beatiful country, with beatiful women..

- nationalities /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-tongue.gif ... I used to work at the
- Cernavoda Nuclear Power Plant, with canadians,
- italians, south americans, etc.... Needless to say
- most of them ended up marrying romanian women. And
- if they were already married... well.... they got a
- divorce first./i/smilies/16x16_smiley-tongue.gif

LOL, yeah i can understand that perfectly. if i were already married, than i would divorce too, only to get a chance to marry a Romanian woman. and one of those americans that i was talking about is in the middle of a divorce. so hereby i support your words with evidence to convince all the other guys that are still married to a non-romanian woman /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

Due to the nature of the society - and in part the education - families and family education in Romania are somewhat oldfashioned. In other words - the man still wears the pants in a family. Don't get it wrong - it's not the same as the muslim society which I don't agree with. But romanian men are not as easily manipulated by their wives as their western counterparts. The main basis of family relationship in Romania is a mutual feeling of respect (then again, I may have been in a lucky circle of friends/family/family friends) and a good sense of humour from both parts.

But then again.. this is what I've seen from experience so far... I could be wrong.

This may have to do with the hardships that one family has go through - and they have to go through as a family - not individuals. If you don't stick together... then... that's pretty much it.
