Does anyone know of a site where i can find an in depth tutorial on level bombing with the he 111? The one that comes with FB is ok but i'm looking for a little more. I sure wish you could enable auto pilot once you got your heading and altitude so you could concentrate on the bombsight. As far as i know,,the plane did have a bombadier and the pilot didnt have to fly the plane and use the bombsight http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

There are tutorials around but I found that trial and error worked best for me.

First off don't use bomber in QMB, you never have enough time to set everything before you fly over the target. So set up a mission in FMB and start at your desired altitude, somewhere around 2000 or 3000m. Give yourself about 5 min to target.

Next, bind a key to "Level Stabilizer", and bind your arrow keys (not numpad) so left and right are "Rudder Trim" and up and down are "Elevator Trim". Once you are at your ideal altitude hit your "Level Stabilizer" key and then trim your elevators positive so that you counteract the tendency of the plane to lose alt even with Stabilizer on. This may take a lot of trimming to actually get that needle to stay still, so keep hitting that trim button. While you are doing this get your bombsight settings programmed in. Make a copy of the Indicated Airspeed/True Airspeed chart found on your IL2:FB CD (not AEP)in the MANUAL folder. Print it out and keep it nearby.

Once everything is set, just keep your eye on your left right movement and counteract with rudder trim, but use this more carefully, a little goes a long way with the rudder trim. Once you are within bombsight visibility of your target switch to bombadier position and get your target in sight. Use your Rudder trim to move your vertical crosshair in line with your target and remember how many times you use the rudder trim either way so that you can return it to 0. Or you could just bind a key to "Rudder Trim Neutral" http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

Once you are getting close and your speed and alt are in sync with the bombsight hit the automation key and try to keep that crosshair steady on the target. If everything is set right you should be able to put two SC2000's in the back of a Studebaker! http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/59.gif

I hope this didn't confuse you, what makes sense to me is often nonsense to others. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

Thanks for the tips...it's a little confusing but i will practice. I really want to get the hang of precision bombing. Had a good time being the bombadier in b17II.

Nice! Thanks fellas... all this time I've been trying to get my crosshairs lined up without using Level Stabilizer. I didn't even have a key bound to it, duh... >8)

I'll be updating the Guide soon with updated charts from IL2 compare for AEP and adding some single engine procedures.
