I have recently purchased lock on modern air combat and love the game. I have heard lots about IL2 FB and love to fly props. Could use some opinions on whether to buy the game or not. Also, have they had to patch it? Are the graphics good?

yes, please buy it http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

But it's funny you ask "should I buy a game" in a forum where everyone loves this game anyway. You should try to ask this question on Microsoft flight sim forums, interesting what will they say.

I don't expect much positive feedback about MS sims here. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Think of FB as the step beyond CFS2 that you hoped CFS3 would be. It's the best I've experienced in my short life as a sim jockey. After 6 months of practicing offline mostly, I'm almost ready to play with the big boys at Hyperlobby lol. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Those dedicated servers there are as much fun to watch as they are to play for us old farts.

Just in case that's your next question, here's a link to the UBI Gaming Zone:

http://www.ubi.com/US/GamingZone/

and Hyperlobby:

http://hyperfighter.jinak.cz/

Don't hesitate to buy FB. There's a good bunch here in the forum who will help you get started. I've learned a lot just reading these threads but when you go online the learning curve takes a zoom upwards.

Have fun!

FB is a wondrous sim. People always pipe up and criticise sometimes giving the impression it`s bad, but its just that they want a great sim even greater!

I play online quite alot, but I have never left offline play. Offline Campaign is straight forward, free of sometimes annoying people (who can be dumber than the AI) and always available when you want a spin! http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I would wait until next month(the 18th maybe) and get il2fb gold. This is a combo pack with both IL2fb and the paid addon.

If you can not wait get FB now and the addon later.

Yes, buy it. It's incredible, a must have for anyone even remotely interested in WWII combat aviation. The best $40 I ever spent.

Definatly buy it, you really dont have to ask us Im sure once you buy the game and try it you will see how good it is for yourself, and if you dont enjoy it you can always return it. for 19-29 bucks il2fb is worth every dollar and there is more aircraft coming in february/november as a payware addon see www.netwings.org (http://www.netwings.org) for more details

Thanks for the tips and suggestions guys. For the post that asked why i would come to the games forum and ask fans if i should buy it? This is because you all know the most about it and you can let me in on the flaws and critisisms. I have heard from some ppl that the games graphics are no better than the original cfs1. I dont expect it to be on par with lock on(damn good game) but i also dont need a nintendo lookin gamehttp://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Eagle, go here and check out the screenshots and you'll see they're far better than the original CFS game.
http://www.il2sturmovik.com/download/screenshots.php
FB beats the CFS series hands down (haven't played CFS3 though) on just about everything except being able to create or edit the aircraft, which isn't neccessarily a bad thing.

Well, what to say, its the best WW2 Combat flight simulation up to date, a reference to which future programmers will have to compare against their products, ( according to Plane and Pilot magazine "a Stalwart of computer flight simulations")

I have had it for 2 years Il2 original and FB) and I still play it, there is something about handling those powerful and heavily armed fighter planes that makes you forget what is around you...wife, kids , food.....Im hooked man!

Eagle, at low altitude the graphics in FB are WAY better than in Lock-on. The planes and vehicles also look much better. Overall I think FB looks much better than Lock-on, the screenshots don't do this game justice, whereas with Lock-on I thought they were decieveing. Bought Lock-on and thought the graphics were horrible after playing FB for so long.

Ok, if FB's graphics are compared to lock ons awesome detail then i will definately buy it. However, i have heard some talk of a IL2 GOLD coming out. It sounds like it would be better to wait for that and get it all at once. What does the GOLD give you and should i just wait for it. Thanks! E34

These people are probably from CFS...... FB is the best WW2 sim on the market. There is nothing that even comes close....well.... IL2 comes close...very close in fact but FB is awesome. The graphics are stunning. The flight models are top notch....with no gimmicks...just flight. With all the different planes in this sim it is a testament to it's developers that each plane flies a little different. The plane set is great. The Damage models are the best out...where else can you come up from behind a bandit you are trying to take down and actually rip off his right elevator when you get too close..( I was out of ammo and trying to force him to crash... which I did BTW http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif) and even mess up your engine forcing you to crash land in a field because you couldnt get home wit the damage done to your engine. Buy it. Buy it today. At $19 US it is a steal. For the $49 I spent for it ... it was a steal. Start saving money though because this sim is soooooo good that you will want to improve your rig in some way...memory,video..... something. When you start to get into it you will want to upgrade. Unless you are running a mediocre system you wont HAVE to but you will WANT to. Just to get it better. You will love it. It is a masterpiece.

Thanks for the suggestion bearcat. I am from the cfs series, that is until lomac came out of course lol, and have recently converted. My system runs lomac pretty well. If you have heard anything about lomac you will know it takes a decent PC to run it. However, i still have the question about some GOLD version that is coming out soon. I dont want to go out and buy the FB then have a expansion pack i have to go get soon after. If you, or anyone, know anything about this i would love to hear about it. oh yeah, sys specs are: P4 2.8ghz, 120GB HD, 512 ddr ram, ati 9800 agp vid card. Thanks.

There is a paid add on coming in February.EB Games has it listed for $29.99.It will have about 30 new planes, new maps and objects. If you look around IL2fb can be found for $20.00.

The gold additon will be the combination of both.IL2fb(with all the patches) and the new paid add on.EB games has it selling for $39.99.(about a $10.00 savings)

That said, delivery dates sometimes get pushed back so the add on might not be on time.So if you got to play now go get Fb for $20.00(you will have to d/l a 116 meg patch to play online)
