I cut the wires to the rocker and hooked my pedals into it.

I took the spring out of the stick.

I disasembled the stick and shimmed the gimbals with electrical tape.

Even with all this work, I just didn't like the stick because of the slop around center. Everything else I liked.

But then I saw that Tully has the axis sliders set so that center sensitivity is high. Duh! I tried it and....

Oh boy did that do the trick. I still need to back the roll axis off a bit, but the pitch axis finally responds to input around center. My gunnery has increased dramaticly http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Awww, trade in the evo? I have one and I love it to death! I guess that throttle is appealing though....I heard you can use that throttle with a different stick...might have to try that.

Do you have a brand name for the pedals?

I have a ms ffb2 stick, x45 throttle, and ch pro pedals.

All usb, in a usb hub.

FB supports multiple joysticks, so it's not an issue.

The x45 stick isn't that good - but the throttle is great.

So, I simply slide the x45 stick behind my monitor and use the throttle http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Hope that helps

Salute!

I got my poedals here (http://www.provantage.com/buy-110CHPU-ch-shopping.htm). I ordered them on a Saturday and they were on my doorstep by that Tuesday. I have had no trouble with them so far.

Hey Rall.... wheres the other "Badges!!?????" http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

I would suggest to anybody thinking of getting a throttle and who has a stick they like already..(yeah.. I know.. I sound like a broken record.. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/35.gif) to get the X45 and use it as a button bay. I can't over state how awesome it is to be able to fly and not have to touch your keyboard for anything. See......... for me....... immersion is the thing. I mean.... I care about kills and I hate going down in flames as much as the next guy.. but I didn't get this rig thinking it would make me a better pilot. I got it because I wanted the closest thing to a sense of flying a plane and not a computer that I can get and at the time to me that meant a HOTAS setup, so I HAD to get a throttle. I didn't even dig it till I actually set up the X45. I got the X45 strictly for the throttle. I was perfectly content to just put the stick behind my computer and just use the throttle because the MSFFB is the FFB stick AFAIC..... and I really didn't want to part with it. I already had my pedals and I just wanted a throttle. When I looked at the stick and tried it out I looked at it and I said to myself "Hmmmmmm this spring is stiff as h@ll....." and a light went off. On a whim I assigned a few commands to the stick and to my surprise it worked. Then I proceeded to set up both sticks. Initially I used the FB controls menu to assign the commands... untill one day I accidentally hit "reset to default". That was the end of that. After that I decided to use the Saitek/Sidewinder software and set up profiles... it's been a lot more fun since. I use all my hat switches as 4 way hats.. not 8 way hats... its easier to hit a 4 way switch than an 8 way switch. I use the 12,3,6 & 9 O'clock positions on each of my hats (the two on the X45 stick and the two on the X45 throttle plus the one on the MSFFB stick). The little black button on my throttle next to the mouse pan is set to ALT/CTRL/SHIFT in modes 1,2 &3. Now I also have multiplied the commands on my FFB buttons 1-4 and the 4 on the hat by a factor of 3..... thats 24 commands just with my right hand and a button click with my right. (Remember.. I can't take my hand off the MSFFB stick or it will loose stiffness so buttons 5,6,7 & 8 and the throttle of the MSFFB are adjusted with my left hand). I had to adjust my profile to accomodate my ever changing needs (I realized the need to have pitch, throttle & trim on the same hand..like in the real planes.. and I just got TIR2 so I will have to adjust it again, this time it will be more finalized since I plan no more upgrades) but it is a great setup and the X45 throttle with stick as button bay and FFB stick setup works great. You can choose to either have your rudder on the twist stick or the X45s rocker.. or if you have pedals that point becomes moot and you can use the twist for rudder trim. You can put all those commands that you dont use often but are easier to remember if they are on a stick instead of a keyboard (lights, drop tanks, wingtip smoke, manual landing gear etc) to the point where the keyboard can go under your desk and the immersion factor increases dramatically. If you are short on desk space there are ways around that.. the footprint of the X45 stick is only @ 6"X6".. remember.. the stick doesn't have to be someplace where you can get your hand in it... just on it. For me its the only way to fly. And the cost? Since I got both the X45 and the MSFFB on sale for $49 each and paid $107 & $99 for the pedals and TIR respectively... the whole control setup cost me $306.... That's pedals, both sticks and TIR. Not including shipping. Of course since the demise of Sidewinder (DUMB DUMB DUMB IMO) Saitek has not put the X45 on sale.... but if yoiu try for a refurbed here (http://store.yahoo.com/saitekusa/recprod.html) for $39 and use another FFB stick (Logitech and Saitek are it....) wellll you get the picture.

Sorry, had an emergency and couldn't compute for a day.

I took the spring our of the stick. The cup/saucer/spring tensioner just sucks.

As for the rudder perdals, I have the ch products pro pedals. I removed the USB board from it, rewired the pots directly to the cable, and cut the usb connector off. Then I soldered a stereo male plug to it and put a stereo female plug into the base of the x45 throttle. From there, I just cut the wires to the rocker and hooked them to the stereo plug.

As for the in-game adjustments, I have the pitch axis set to 100 accross the board. The roll axs begins at 50 and increments up by 10, but its a bit too twitchy, so i'll probably start at 30.

Shimming the gimbals is an uber pain. You have to be comfortable with soldering. I won't describe the process because anyone willing to do that much work should be willing to just figure it out.

Sounds like a nice bit of modding Baldie. Glad you like the setup.

BTW, when you say you took the spring out of the stick... does it not center any more?

damn Baldie, you should apply for a job at Saitek http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

No self-centering.

Once acclimated to a 'feather touch' stick, you'll never want to arm-wrestle a joystick again.

Hi Gozr, here's the link with the illustrated photos.

http://www.simhq.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=79;t=001780

I did it on my X36 and it worked like a charm. Any pedals would do. But now I've got a CH USB pedals, so I took it out. My only advice is to cut the wires in a way that you could reconnect them later on, in my case, after I got the CH pedals, I would've liked to use the rocker on the throttle as flap lever.

Diablo take that X45 stick out and program the buttons. It is not as much of a hassle as it seems and the immersion factor will go through the roof. You bought it.. dont waste it.
