Don`t some of you guys wish for the days when you had FB/IL2 and never knew this forum existed? I used to be quite content flying around after non-b&Zing AI in circles, shooting them down in my super Lagg3 `41.

Then you join the forums, primarily to get info on flying effectively or about joining an online game. Suddenly you`re shocked by the deluge of whines that hit you (it must be like this for every new online IL2 person to the forums).

I remember the first complaints: `The 109s don`t B&Z` I read, `All they do is chase you around in circles, just turn, it`s easy to avoid them. IL2 is crap!`

I remember thinking, `What`s B&Z?`

You read on more whines and moans, you wonder if you`ve come to the wrong place. This can`t be the site for the BEST FLIGHT SIM EVER?! But it is...

Then as you find out more and more, you get infected and start whining about the little stupid, yes STUPID things that don`t really matter. You find you start losing the actual point of the Sim: TO ENJOY IT!

Sometimes, I really wish i hadn`t ever seen the forums. I`d be contented in my ignorance! http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-tongue.gif

Thankfully, look long enough and you see the THANKYOUS, the happy faces, the good opinions and good vibes and it aint so bad...

Ah, sorry, it`s late. Just a thought...

When I first joined I was really under the delusion enjoying the same sim would keep things in common and override contentious crap, but this place is loaded with egos. I think a lot of members can relate to your sentiments. I never took the game serious, still don't, but I now take people who take it serious, serious...when they can't get over themselves and make it a point to look down. Its fantacy self-esteem beyond me.

The bottom line is still positive. There are a lot of good folks here who just want to enjoy some time in front of their monitor sharing, caring and looking for a few laughs. It really far outweighs the negative.

Nice post SeaFire

It the same on any game forum. The fans whine about the niggles but don't take it as them hating the game, forums for games seem to exist as 'wish list' compilers. It's constructive critisism (for the most part!). I've just wrestled free of a X2 addiction and the forum for that is filled with "but why dosen't.." and "but it's stupid when.." and "wouldn't it be cool if..." and so on but these are the people that play the game, like, forty hours a week..... http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Even though I don't whine much, I think the whiners are the cause of this game getting better and better. For example: FW190 got its complex dm, we got spitfire, .50 caliber is going to be fixed making USA planes much more fun to fly, and so on.

I want to thank all whiners for their hard work and determinition without you the game wouldn't be the same. Thank you.

Well, if the flight model, damage modeling, visual modeling and (even more important) the game design itself were simply better, and more correct, instead of full of errors, spotty, and dare I say "biased" in some areas.... then we'd have nothing to complain about.

The numbers and the history is there for IL-2/FB/AEP to measure up against. And it only does that to a limited degree. It may be one of the better sims out there, but the best? I think not.

If you want to bury your head in the sand, only talk about "fun factor" and be a fanboi, well, you're entitled to it. But you simply can't dismiss "whining" (the seemingly operative phrase for any complaint, whether based in fact or not) as baseless; many of the complaints about this sim have merit.

I played the IL-2 demo (#'s 1 & 2) and didn't even know this forum existed. In fact I'd never visited a game forum before. When I got the full version of IL-2 I really wanted to take it to the next level. I had so many questions about how to fly, bomb, shoot, get online etc. (I had never gone online to play a game ever.)
I don't know about others, but my first few posts were met with "welcome to the game/forum" and I was given plenty of help. I still get help when asked. Maybe it is the way I ask, I don't know. All I do know is the only time I'm flamed is when I let myself get involved with a political/historical thread. That's where I find the ego's.
Anyway, I glad I found this place and it's still the best forum board (community wise) I've visited.
A big S! to everyone who has responded to me and another big S! to everyone who freely gives of their time and effort to add to the community and to our collective knowledge base.

I have to agree with Stiglr wholeheartedly; though Im not sure what he means by measuring up to numbers and history in "only a limited" way....correct, but sorry, that sentence to me infers that il2/FB doesnt "cut the mustard" as a sim
If Im mistaken, my apologies!

This was the first forum I ever joined. But since then in bad times of this board I have joined a few more. But I still work this one all the time, it is my favorite. I guess its got to do with the product I love it more than any other game I have played. So I support it back the best I can, in here.

There is an old saying you might want to know. It goes like this.

Ignorance can be fixed, But Stupid goes clear to the Bone.

Now start weeding out the ones that fit that explanation and avoid the Stupid ones, and it all becomes enjoyable again.

I think you get 2 types of threads when it comes to whining, you get the whine about a plane without any proof to prove the point and then you get a thread which does use data and can result in a good discussion where people actually take somthing away with them and learn about the planes they fly. I've read some really good threads here which have helped me out allot in game as well as appreciate the game more.

Less of the first and more of the second is good...as long as everyone is nice to each other. Sensless flaming kills communities...and the games that go with them.

Just remember, don't argue with a stupid person, they will bring you down to there level and beat you at it with there superior experiance.

Wow?! This thread is still going? Well, it was only a thought really, written. Generally most people here are good and I have no complaints on them. The `macho` comments are uncalled for- Nothing wrong with Macho, it`s good stuff, but most of them were so predictable, especially Stiglr`s sour comments. But I was surprised by this:

"It may be one of the better sims out there, but the best? I think not."

Now that`s totally uncalled for and not at all true. What is this better WWII flight sim, I ask? Because I haven`t heard of it. Or is it that online thing he keeps going on about, but will never go away and stay there?

Just go and play your `sim` that you think is`Best` then we`d all be happy. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-mad.gif

And I think Oleg's quote I've seen around here in somebody's sig is extremely relevent, the gist of which is:

"Maybe it's easier for people to complain than create something useful."

To me, Stiglr hits a sore spot for me when it comes to complaints about this game/sim.

<BLOCKQUOTE class="ip-ubbcode-quote"><font size="-1">quote:</font><HR>Stiglr wrote:

What exactly do you want? If you want a sim to model every quirk of the Bf-109E down to the rivet and cupholder, then by all means start coding. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-happy.gif Make the ultimate study sim on the 109. But be aware, that IL2, in any form or incarnation, was never designed to be a study sim. It is a survey sim, with the ability to fly numerous planes and designs. You seem to want to compare this excellent piece of software to something it's not. It can be a sim, but it's a survey sim, and in this regard, it is simply the best thing out there for a WWII combat flightsim/game. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/11.gif Enjoy what you have, or leave it. I'm all for constructive criticism, but your comments seem to want to decompile the software from my hard drive. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/crazy.gif Be happy, fly how you like, relax and enjoy yourself. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-happy.gif
