Thanks to those who took the trouble to reply!.
Can you advise a good card that will play most games ie, POP,?
as I live in the irish republic variety is scarce.
also what memory do you advise ? at present have 256.

Well, the rule of the thumb is - the more you pay the better the stuff gets.

With ATI the lowest recommendable card is the Radeon 9600SE. It should be around 100-110 Euros.
The 9600XT is much better, but costs around 170-200 Euros.
If you go for the 9800 line, it starts with the SE (200+ Euros) and ends with the Pro for just below 500 Euros.

Same picture with nVidia: The lowest (barely) recommendable card is the GeForce FX5600XT (around 110 Euros). Then the 5600 (without a suffix) and the 5700 line (140 - 240 Euros). Top of the line is the 5900(Ultra) for 500 Euros or more.

You really have to look at your budget and decide then. But always remember, you get what you pay for. Don't expect any miracles from a 100 Euro card!

If you have a limited budget, I'd always go for an ATI card. They tend to give more power for the bucks.

About the memory: Nowadays 512 MB is really recommended, if not required for most games.
