The instant I saw the books, my eyes were drawn to the symbols on their covers. The shell? I thought. Did Yeesha free her brothers in her darker times, the times before she discovered the sins of pride, like she talked about in Uru? Then I examined them closer...and noticied the symbol was also at the very top of the forums. Perhaps, like Gehn's star, this is the symbol of this new age. Or of the brothers. Or...http://www.angelfire.com/comics/ehigh/myst1.GIF

Interesting speculation! http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif Birds seem to play a part in some of the games, at least in Exile and Uru... look at the shirt that Yeesha wears and also the Grossamery in Exile. It'd be interesting to see if you're right, GryffonDurime. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I never even saw the bird. Thanks for pointing it out- If Yeesha is the desert bird, mabey Atrus and Katherine gave all of their children a birdy nickname? The crazy bird? Early bird? Oh, I know- Sirrus and Achenar are the "Jail Birds"

LOL! Jail Birds! http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

Well, I'd say that bird looks like a chicken. Is it also possible that it isn't a bird? Maybe it just looks like it, because we haven't seen what it really stands for yet.

Or mabey it has a connection o that concept art with the bird symbol- a different bird mind you, but a bird none the less. Or mabey, just mabey, Rawa's got a new fantasy: to be the King Rooster of a huge hen house, with an empire spanning thousands of farms!

... to be honest at first when I saw the symbols in the trailer on the website they looked like Narayan symbols to me, and the one at the top of the site still looks vaguely like one.

I just couldn't figure out what those symbols were until this post. Thank you GryffonDurime! And, just for the record, the symbol looks a lot like a rooster. To me, that is. Corn flakes anyone? http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

I'll take some! *grabs corn flakes*
Well, I don't relaly thing *grabs milk*
that the symbols look like Narayan symbols *grabs sugar and empties it*, but whatever they are, they will probably play a big part in the *chomp, gulp, smack* puzzles in Revelation, or they wouldn't show up on the books and the banner, right? *eats spoon*

Yeah, I thought Achenar's was a bird too. And Sirrus's looks kinda like a monster getting ready to eat somebody.

Yeesha has that round symbol in Uru, remember? Drawn on the ground and written on the rocks and so on. But hers is a lot more abstract, and has D'ni in it.

Mabye the written forms of Rivenese names are round symbols.

Hm, do we even KNOW anything about Rivenese Writting? It very well could be....

Yes, we do know about Rivenese writing. Play Riven and go to the schoolhouse, the alphabet is on the wall...

Ummm ... I may very well be wrong here ... but I thought the alphabet in the school room on Riven was D'ni ... as Gehn was teaching the Rivenese the D'ni language. Otherwise ... why would there be a D'ni numbering system with the Rivenese lettering system? http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/blink.gif

Oh GAD... *whaps Jerle with Stanley for good measure*

Wolfy, you'd probably be amazed how many people don't know that the numbers you learn in Riven are D'ni, let alone the language... I can't count how many times I've seen people ask about the Rivenese number system.

And just for the record, you know just as much about the banner up top as the guy who made it http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif.

Guys, isn't it obvious? S&A wrote those books, that's the secret, Yeesha discovers them and gets trapped in the hell-ish worlds S&A have created :P. (The first part was pretty serious but the hell thing was just some wild thought http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif)

The point is that that's TOO obvious! The point is that we are supposed to reveal some HUGE secret, and therefore anything that we come up with from watching the trailer should be thoroughly and utterly discarded, burned, and stomped on! http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

I doubt that it is her symbol. If you go to the Kadish Vault, and then look at the floor on either side of the door, the same symbol is there. Unless she wrote it into Kadish Tolesa, it isn't her symbol.

She might have.
If you look at the new POTS screenshot she seems to have written the shell symbol into K'veer where Atrus was in Myst.

But - I can't believe nobody has made this connection.
YEESHA IS THE DESERT BIRD.
Remember the opening to Uru?
<BLOCKQUOTE class="ip-ubbcode-quote"><font size="-1">quote:</font><HR>"The dream (Catherine's dream) also tells of a great desert bird, with the power to weave this new D'ni's future....
Yeesha, our desert bird, your search seems to take you further and further from us. I hope what you find will bring you closer."<HR></BLOCKQUOTE>

So it is quite likely that the bird is Yeesha's symbol.
(Hey: since the bird was in Exile as well as an icon of sorts, that means its in all the Yeesha games: Exile, Uru, Revelation).

There are 10 kinds of people in the world: People who know binary and people who don't.
