Just for the sake of experiment we`v decided to completely turn icons off on VFC*HOST and leave only PL and minimap.

If any of our regulars and guests have problems with this, please let us know what you think about it, right in this thread http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Kozhedub: In combat potential, the Yak-3, La-7 and La-9 fighters were indisputably superior to the Bf-109s and Fw-190s. But, as they say, no matter how good the violin may be, much depends on the violinist. I always felt respect for an enemy pilot whose plane I failed to down.

Personally i don`t like icons, but left them after we turned externals off. But now i think we are ready for next step. Main reason that PL with icons ON locks only on enemy planes, while without icons it locks on anything that moves http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Just trying different setup, really mate. If it doesn`t work out... we roll back. Experiment is a good thing IMO. We`ll see what happens.

Big Salute! and applause from L-Z! I'm just wondering, tho: are you going to enforce correct nationality markings? Without 'em, I won't fly without at least "friendly icons".

It will be on the description LZ. Correct nationality markings is a MUST and refusing to ware them will result termination http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Its not that big a deal but the settings i like the best have friendly icons within a small distance but no enemy icons. Works better for using team tactics on teamspeak.

You should come fly in greater green, virtualpilots1 2 or mudmovers server if its ever up again, I do miss flying in your server but choose to not fly in padlock servers anymore, just my personal preference. No enemy icons is always a good thing in my book, if people dont like it theres plenty of other servers on HL with icons.

Theres no servers on HL with
Cockpit off
externals off
padlock off
labels off everything else on

I use to like those settings and they made me like FR even more but understand everyone has there own difficulty preferences

PL off is something i can easily deal with. But as i said many times before it`s a matter of fairness mate. Meaning,

Yound eyes vs old eyes
Top of the line PC vs medium or below average
And most important, TIR vs no TIR

The trick with no icons is... it locks on the closest plane, friend or enemy, doesn`t matter...there goes radar http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

I flew on Maudmovers and greatergreen not once, but i guess it`s a matter of personal preferences...for me i`d rather let icons go then PL. I have TIR which would be a great advantage.

Lead,

Do you mean, open cockpit but all other settings difficult? I hosted this once or twice, thinking people would like it, but very few joined. I thought it was kinda fun.

Leave PL off too http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Icons off is nice.. I actually prefer no aids but speedbar (for those ac where compass is obstructed). Then again I'm not flying online anymore or hosting so I can make those and not worry about it http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

GL... call me if you need more stuff on Monday D- I'll be in the office most of the day or my cell.

Ivan, very true about old and young eyes, don't forget just plain bad eyes like mine. http://www.geocities.com/adlabs6/B/bin/1/sad.gif

It's always bugged me that FB is so hard to see at distance in, and at high resolution it's no better, indeed worse. IRL, I can read the numbers on a plane 300 to 500 feet away with my glasses on, depending on the size of the numbers. No way in FB, mainly because of the monitor limits. Same with spotting them far off, way harder in FB than RL. For the last month or two, when I fly FB, I've been running at 800x600 res., and it's made all the difference. I can spot the dots when they appear with no strain, even leaning back in the chair. I'll probably keep it like this, there's no since in making it harder than it's supposed to be.

No icons is fine by me, I have always had mine mapped to a button for toggle, and the last time I flew on your server, I had them toggled off. And like you say, as long as the padlock doesn't discriminate friend from foe, I can't complain too much, as at least a modicum of pilot discretion is still required for target selection.

I havent' been online in a while due to schedule changes, but I'll try to stop by if I can.

Great News! Identification is an important part of flying and only adds another level of immersion into the game.

bah, just click the REALISTIC button on your difficulty settings and launch Ivan =)

Russian aircraft require skill to fly.
German aircraft require ten times that skill, and one hundred times the patience!
