it's about average i'd say,but most peopel's grafix cards are 9500 or FX 5600 or something and a few less are FX 5900 and 9800's.

Now I have same vid card as you an I'd say buy a ATi X800 or Nvidia 6800GT and you'll be running a GOOD system, add 1 gig more ram and you'll be running a GREAT system

It sounds pretty decent to me, but I'm using a laptop with a mobility ati gc with 32mb memory http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-sad.gif . Up the RAM and you should be doing pretty good.

Well the Intell 2.4 Ghz processor with the 400Mhz front side bus ( FSB ) was not all that great. FB is processor intensive. My brother has a P4 with the 400Mhz FSB and my Athlon XP-2100 ( 1.733 Ghz ) beats the pants off of it in pure processing power benchmarks. However, if you have the one with the 533Mhz FSB or even better yet, one with the 800Mhz FSB, then you're probably ok. Both those versions perform noticably better than the lowly 400Mhz FSB P4. I'd suggest finding out how fast the FSB is, do a web search on a program called WCPUID and it will tell you when you run it. It's a very small program to download and doesn't even need to be setup, only executed. If you have the P4 2.4Ghz
with the 400 FSB, I'd recommend upgrading to a faster one. At least 2.8Ghz if your motherboard can handle it.

P4 2.4 ghz, ATI 9200, 512mb ram is ****.

AMD 2500+, 512 PC266 and ATI 9500+ is standard.

AMD 64-bit/P4 3ghz+, 512+512 dual channel PC400, ant ATI 9800+ is above avg for now.

My specs are AMD 2600@2.2ghz (which is like 2800), 768 PC2100, and ati 9800 pro and I get shiite fps if I run perfect landscape mode with opengl. I run fine around 60 fps with excellent mode.

Sounds to me like an okay midrange system - Is it a "good" or a "bad" setup, depends on what you do with it. For most people, this would be a perfectly fine system. It'll play FB and other 3D games, but you'll have turn down the graphics detail. The most important question is, what do you think of the performance you're getting from it?

If this were my system and I had money burning a hole in my pocket I'd consider either replacing the video card (for better gaming performance) or doubling the memory to 1024 (For better performance across the board in demanding applications such as photo or video editing programs, and FB as well :-)). I wouldn't however upgrade anything just for the sake of upgrading, have a valid reason for doing that or otherwise you're just throwing money down the drain.

Personally, I'm currently running a "Willamette" P4 1.8-400 with 512mb of PC2100 memory and an old 32mb GeForce2 video card. The last change I've made to the system was the addition of a 160mb SATA hard drive because I needed the extra space for video editing. The next upgrade will be a better video card, because a) GF2's performance is HORRIBLE b) I want to set up dual monitors, to make video/photo/web editing easier.

Merkava, there must be something weird with your system, if you can't run perfect on it at high enough frame rate. What drivers are you using?

I have an XP2400 CPU, 768 Mb PC3200 and a 9800Pro, slightly overclocked and get very good framerate on perfect. I use beta 4.7 Cats.

To the original poster - get a bit more ram and a 9800Pro (they're quite cheap today) and you'll be able to run perfect graphics, no problem at all!
