Heroes of the Pacific (http://www.gamespot.com/news/2004/04/19/news_6093833.html).

What do you make of this. Being also for the PS2 and Xbox, makes me think "the PF equivalent of Secret Weapons Over Normandy". The Zero will be a "locked" aircraft at first ? What are they thinking ?

Well it looks like a very visually appealing and partially authentic experience (i.e. the aircraft are relatively realistic to their true historical counterparts). Like any other type of game in this particular area, the emphasis is on action and excitment which are not necessarily a bad thing but many will probably look at it and say "boo its not very realistic" which is probably true.

I'm hoping that PF will upgrade its clouds a bit and we'll have a game that looks virtually as good as that one plus the authenticity of complex flight and damage models not to mention multiple types of the same aircraft (i.e. this game likely has one Hellcat to represent them all) and variations of combat throughout the various theaters of combat.

PF is a much bigger project and the one that has my vote. Still...as I said before, anything that brings these types of historical events to the forefront will bring a certain number of people more towards the sim and to Pacific Fighters, Forgotten Battles, and The Battle of Britain (later on).

Has some nice eye candy, but seeing as it will be PS2 as well, expect it to fly about as realistically as SWON.

Too bad it wil not be out soon, if it was out before PF I would play it knowing that a more realistic one was on the way. If PF is out first, I'll give it a pass.

Without seeing these a/c in flight (FMs) or knowing anything about the mission structure, it would be hard to say. The graphics are pretty. But where is the character? For me it's not very interesting. A non-starter.

You can bet your bippy it's gonna be like Secret Weapons Over Normandy. Unlockable planes, split screen multiplayer on Xbox ...and it's just about impossible playing a realistic sim on consoles, there ain't enough buttons http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

"Players will also get to pilot more than 25 authentic World War II aircraft, including the Grumman F4F Hellcat and F6F Wildcat"
