Looking for any tips/tactics on how to fly the p51's, mainly the late version p51d-na. Looking for settings for engine, tactics one uses against the 109s and 190s, its pluses and minuses. Also i was wondering about the k14 gunsight, what are the increments it increases by and what is its default convergence set at? I heard it was starting at 200m, i like it as a gunsight and wanted to get more effective with it if i knew what my range is when i increase its range.

YOu could fly like you want when fihgt with german planes. You could boom&zomm and turn&burn like you want. With russian planes better make b&z at high alt. Only 2 planes are deadly for P-51. There is Ki-84 and Spitfire MK IX expecialy at high alt (in low alt you could escape from spit)

keep the 51 fast 350-400 kts dont turn with the 109 any slower than that. if you let him bleed you down your toast, he's faster than you in a dive + climb and can turn better at slow speeds, your only advantage is a high speed turn fight, the 109's like to go straight at high speeds. same tactics work with the 190's but their roll rate is much faster than yours but they turn worse than a 109 at slower speeds, be prepared to spend 3 times as long behind a lufty as tey do behind you. those 108's will rip you in half in a heart beat, where the 50's take a while to disable them. BTW WTF is my incendiary ammo Oleg. its a know fact that it was widley used in the ETO.

You can turn with all 109s except the g6as and g2 at slow speeds and win, according to il2 compare.

you mean the dinky toy P51 as in FB's P51? lol J/K

just fly it how you want against the luftwaffa
on 25% fuel you can turn with any late war 109/190 or you can just stick to BnZ and pepper them with 50s, good burst will knock any 109 out of the fight (NO you wont see wings ripped off all the time ) but 3/4 50s cripples the 109 beyond fighting
also the P51 almost doesnt overheat so you can fly max power all the time.
only problem in the P51 is you wont outclimb a late war 109 (like it shouldnt) but against a FW190A/D you can almost always outclimb them on 25% fuel

the P51 is very easy to fly and very forgiving and is as fast as any 109G/K so it wont give you to much problems, and if it does stick to an La7 http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Try to BnZ as much as possible. Word of caution: The control surfaces love to rip off at high speeds so if you find yourself in a dive and your speed is approaching 650 km/h or so, DONT pull back too hard on the stick otherwise you might lost an aileron. Above 700 km/h you have to let the Mustang climb itself out of the dive. You cannot pull back on the stick at all or youre gonna lose a wing. There are many times that I see an online pilot lawn dart while trying to BnZ in a Mustang because they lose a wing trying to get out of a dive.

Like what was said before, .50 cals are very effective against 109s online. But also be prepared for the odd occaision where you unload on someone and they keep flying unhurt. Then again, sometimes a wing will just pop off. Aim for the engine, tail, or wings if you can. The .50 cals are very good at messing with peoples control surfaces and knocking out engines.

If you end up in a TnB situation with a bad turner (FW190), the 51 is an underrated turner with combat flaps engaged. Just keep your speed above 350 km/h or so at all times and you should be fine.

Edit: I almost forgot the fuel. Take 25% no matter what. You can fly all day and night on 25% fuel. You have a fuel gauge over your left shoulder in the P51 cockpit.
