I saw some journo bringing a corsair into land on the deck of a carrier. He hits the deck hard, bounces, but manages to snag the braking cable on the deck. Unfortunately he bounces too high, the line flips the plane and it explodes on deck...................leaving no damage to the carrier deck at-all. Nice big explosion and no damage. This has to be added, please. I'd love to bring my plane onto the deck of the carrier with crews fighting a fire, bits of metal strewn across the deck waiting to catch me out, or even having to make a flypast, to check where I can make my best approach from and then bringing it in 'on a wing and a prayer' literally. I hope damage is added to the decks, please look at this option, thanks guys.

Those wooden flight decks were tougher than you think. I doubt that a hard landing would cause noticable damage.

On the other hand, I agree that it would be interesting to have a delay in recovery ops while a fire is put out and wreckage is cleared. Say at least a 5 minute delay. Those deck crews were pretty good at fire fighting and clearing decks.

Unless it's part of the realism settings it would make multiplayer games near impossible.
I'm not surprised.
Mind you PF is not finished yet.

Maybe, but it will be so be funny to see carriers sunk by their own planes http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gifhttp://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gifhttp://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Indeed! http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

I'd just keep in mind that PF is still very much a WIP. Perhaps ships will be damaged by botched landings and it just hasn't been implemented yet. I'd personally like to see the deck more populated by LSOs and other crew you'd typically expect to be found above deck.

Be careful what you wish for. :P
I remember an old Origin game (can't remember name, probably Pacific Strike, the Strike Commander sequel in WW2 PTO) where you could sink enemy carriers by just landing on them and bouncing a couple of times. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Damage on ships hadn't been implemented by that time but it will be in there for the final game.

Yes, thanks for the reply. I wasn't actually asking for impossible landings, just a bit more difficulty and relistic looks.
As for the online play, if it would make it too difficult with deck damage, how about damaged carriers getting lower in the water, and pitching and rolling more, so that the flight deck is clear, just much harder to land on. This would balance up the opposition's effort to damage the ship and give them some sort of 'reward' for hits.

Kikka posted this link to some interesting photos of carrier mishaps http://www.ipmsstockholm.org/magazine/2003/02/stuff_eng_photo_deck_landings.htm. I think it might give you a better perspective on the toughness of the old wooden deck carriers. Take a close look at how little damage is evident in those involving impacts and prop strikes. Who knows, maybe Luthier can replace the teak with delta wood, that ought to make it better than steel http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-wink.gif
