I was just curious to any who've checked out the new demo/beta/whateveritscalled...are the control options more liberating than URU? I was severely disappointed at how difficult it was to set the controls in URU. You have to hold a button down to stay in free-look mode while walking or running, and sometimes it lets go of one or the other and irritates me.
Why is it so difficult for some game writers to just TEST their product for these problems before submitting it to the market? Is MYST IV easier to program the controls the way you want them?

I'm going to assume generally that the controls are based like Exile, but I'm sure more has been added. You don't have the full complexities of 3D involved. So that nixxes all that mess.

The only time I hated Uru's navigation controls was when I first started beta last August. I was going bonkers. Of course, I was trying to navigate using the mouse since all previous Myst games were driven that way. After a few vault wipes I got a pretty good handle on the arrow keys & the , and . strafe buttons. Uru navigation is very easy for me now.

Anyway, Revelations' navigation will be much simpler. I'm sure of it. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

Well at the moment they're like Exile.
But I actually started quite a lengthy discussion asking FOR the Uru controls scheme:

AgnosticPriest, you do know this is a prerendered game, right? Because you use the mouse cursor to interact with the environment, it pretty much has to be mouse-driven. The only option I can think of that you might want to alter would be the key that toggles between mouselook (camera follows mouse) and free mouse (fixed camera, mouse moves around screen, which also allows you to access the menu bar).

I know you have to use the mouse for two different functions. My complaint is that you have to hold down the freelook button to look around while moving or just standing. The cursor should stay midscreen so you can move about and look about freely while still using and interacting with objects. You shouldn't need to toggle it off and on.
URU's controls in that respect were quite annoying...and disappointing.
