Hey everyone I'm new to this game and love it but i do have one question I couldn't figure out for myself... how do you properly end a campaign mission after you get the mission complete message? I land and get it but it doesn't automatically end so I usually just hit escape and select quit mission but that just doesn't seem right. Is there another way or a hot key that i'm missing? Thanks for your help!

Nope, thats they way to end it, kinda wierd huh, wasnt expecting it to be like that on the original either, I waited like 15 minutes to see if it would end by itself. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

You are only the 457,698th person to ask this same question. It obviously made sense to the prerson who programmed it. It appears that is the only person it made sense to.

Will the mission negatively effect your campaign if you end it prior to the "mission complete" message?

lol, I just dont like the idea of "quitting" after I've accomplished the missions, it'd be sweet if they patched the GUI to say "end mission" as it'd still apply to the quitters.

I must agree, I remember the confusion - you almost feel like you are doing something wrong to quit the mission.

My first thought was 'Please hope it saves it!' LOL

This is something that drives me nuts. Often I cannot tell when the mission is over at all. My flight leader will say, "Mission complete, just like the movies, let's go home; and I quit, but find the mission is not over, and I have to fly it again. I really have a hard time telling when the mission is in fact over. I found that it's usually best to escape out, as soon as you're sure it's over. Those pesky AI rear gunners and AAA can get you from 3000 meters if any are still about.

Well, I fly with mission completion off, so that isn't an issue. I get a Mission Complete right after I start the engine.

That flight leader who says "Mission Complete" probably isn't even your flight leader. All the flight leaders have the same voice (not the strongest part of the off line campaigns).

The problem with waiting for a Mission Complete on your screen is that sometimes it requires killing one specific aircraft or vehicle. Sometimes you can't even figure out what it's supposed to be.

Hey, I read the briefing, accomplish the mission as best I can, land, park the plane, shut off the engine, hit Esc and hit "apply."

That's the way it really was done (well, maybe not the Esc and Apply keyshttp://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif).

If I'm flying ground attack, I get in as fast as I can, blow up whatever I can, and get out of Dodge as fast as I can. Let my AI top cover deal with the enemy fighters.

If I'm flying top cover, I get whatever kills I can and head for home with my flight. I'm not going to hang around with only a few bullets remaining to see who shows up next.

Oh, and I'm never bashful about asking the tower to send help. Friendly AI can make all the difference.

And I always fly at the top ranks so I have some control over the loadout and other friendlies.

It's not a game. It's a sim http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

That's just my method. Do it the way you enjoy it most.

don't see why they can't just put a little box up saying - mission complete; end mission now? y/n or similar.

It's a great game/sim but would like to see the interface gone over by a good designer.

I seem to recall that if you manage to land in one piece and get off the runway you get a "Hidden Target Complete" message (or something like that) so even if you don't destroy the thing you were supposed to you can Esc and Apply.

BTW, the mission not ending automatically perhaps has something to do with the fact that you can land and switch off your engine only to find that some bandits have followed you home for a spot of vulching.

Also sometimes it's fun to have a fly about the map and see what else you can destroy if you've got any ammo left http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

In both FA/18 and IL-2, my rule is always the mission is not over until I am back on the ground (or ship) and parked. Unless, of course, I have to bail or crash land.

uhm guys there is a simple solution for all this
just when you start a campaign just leave the "NO instant succes" option unchecked in the difficulty screen so you can quit a campaign mission any time
without the worries you have to start the mission all over again.
although its kinda stupid because you never have to complete any objectives you can always quit and go to the next mission.

i hope i helped some of you guys http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Thank you RK. I never touched the No Instant Success switch, because I did not understand what it did. It will be so less frustrating to have the choice to Apply or Refly, rather than being forced to fly the same mission over and over, in order to advance. It these little things that are not obvious that help the most. I just learned that there is a rear-view (check-six) mirror option for some planes in Misc. Control Options.

Snuffy that's the one that will give you a Mission Complete while you're still on the runway. I couldn't remember the name of it when I wrote my post, since I turned it off years ago and never touch it http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Does anybody know if it is possible to change the No Instant Success switch once you have started a campaign. Didnt do it on the campaign I have started and I am begining to regret it big time http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/35.gif

I'm afraid, once you begin, the campaign difficulty settings are locked and cannot be changed. You can always start over, I've done that several times. You'll need to create a new pilot or delete the present pilot's campaign.
