Has anyone noticed just how uber-good the I53 is on the net?
I was in a Hurri IIC with 3 others in our team (two Hurris and one Yak). It was us 4 sometimes 3 against him. We flew round about in a dogfight for ages. He shot two of us down, It was only after repeated attacks did we eventually smoke him and finish him off. This was without any help from his wingmen. On a One on One against any other plane (incuding Yaks, LA7s Hurris) the I53 outflys every time. We spent 2 hours flying again and again on full real (except icons). We started having some success when the guy in the Yak stayed high and B and Z him while we pursued our attack.
Has anyone else noticed just how overmodelled this plane is?
The only way I can see to beat them is engage him with at least 2 planes( and it won`t be easy) or get a plane that flys real high and stay there till he gets bored.

I`ve not heard mention of this plane`s ability before, maybe cos noone really tried it. I tell you this plane is truly a UFO! /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-indifferent.gif

Anyone else notice this?

Your "net" experience sounds like what happened in real life. Keep practicing, like real pilots needed to. It is difficult to dogfight a biplane that has greater Hp/weight than your high speed monoplane. /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-surprised.gif

The only problem with I153 I have is it`s DM.

Other than that it`s only your fault, that he shot you down.In online wars where I fly I153 isn`t a competition.

The climb and turn rates for the I-153 are greater than they are historically (climb to 5000m, 4.5 minutes, should be 5.7 minutes. Turn time at 1000m ~10 seconds, should be 12 seconds).

Probably dealt with in the patch. Even when correct, it will still be godlike in climb and turn.

I fly this plane online all the time and know plenty of pilots who can down me in one pass. At the same time, I know plenty of pilots who can NOT down me in as many as 5 passes. They tend to make comments like yours.

You haven't heard mention of that plane because its ugly. If Oleg modeled an F-16 that flew like a potatoe, there would be entire squadrons devoted to it even though it flys like garbage... planes that are pretty get more attention than planes that are practical, with the exception of the hurri because its not normal.. go figure.

Shame on you for not testing other planes.

The I-153 is the most manuvreable plane in the game. It can side-step bullets and dance betweek flak rounds. Why more people don't fly it is beyond me (not really).

I'll bet your opponent got you in the vertical!

No I don`t get killed in the vertical, cos I`m not dumb enough to go vertical with a bogey on my tail!. It`s usually he outturns me and eventually picks me off.

Some good comments, but some silly sweeping comments. I`m no noob to this and neither are the squad.

This one is a good one:

Turn climb rate of the I53 is amazing, matches just about any Allied aircraft (don`t know about German ones).

I think this is its principal fault. I hope like Fennec says it will be patched.

p.s. And I know too that historically they gave the Jerries a bit of a battering, so I expect them to still be very good turners, but not out climbing everything, and turning on a Dime.

If you can't "turn climb" to escape away from a I~153, then run in straight and level flight (and come back a little higher), as I do. I~153 has more power for its little size than you do.

Real I~153 turned on a dime. Do you try to turn with them? Don't.

Beware of it on servers that allow you to fly without a cockpit.

One of the great equalizers of the 153 is that visibility is TERRIBLE for making decent deflection shots...and considering how well it turns, you get them quite often.

Without the cockpit, the 153 is pretty much the best thing out there if you're a TnB flyer.

"We flew round about in a dogfight for ages"

sounds like tailchasing, biplane will always win that contest.

Not sure what to say as you were flying Hurricanes and Yak. In LW planes I would say just stay fast and pick him apart, but I'm not sure the Hurricane is fast enough for that. Yak should be fast enough, just pretend you are flying a 109. If he is good then you will only ever get high deflection shots and it will take awhile, but if you are good he will never get a shot at all.

While the FM of the 153 may be better than it should be, so is that of most early war planes (109E climbs to 6000m quicker that 109G2 for example), so don't expect the relative performance to necessarily change (i.e. 153 climb and turn may be adjusted downwards, but so may Hurricane et al).

DAMMIT! That`s it. I said earlier we just had icons on, but now I remember we also had no cockpit option on too. One of my wingmen kept saying he`s flying without cockpit or something. I never fly without my cockpit so I thought nothing to it. But that`s what it must be.
The limited visibilty would make a massive difference.
Thanks. MrDorf. /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

No, if you mean the game with EAF, it was not no cockpit view. EAF does not fly in no cockpit mode. But sometimes I play on no cockpit games so I know very good how to use. If it is no cockpit view, it is even more easy to kill hurricane with chaika.

Chaika must be defeated not with hurricane, but with other plane and other tactics than was used in that game.
If you turn and burn, you play on the chaika playground. That's not my fault./i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

You try and turn fight an I-153 and then you come on here and cry about it? Sheese! Nothing out turns a biplane. In the war the soviets even converted many I-16 pilots to Chaikas for the increased maneuverability. A word of advice for the future: don't turn fight a bi-plane in anything but a bi-plane.

my technique for cowards (as i am) is to throttle up, dive, get up to about 400 km/h, level off, and finally look back and laugh. when i fly i-16's or 1-153's, i'm usually suckin exhaust fumes and lookin at the tails of my enemies. its hard to get an average pilot to TnB with an i153, so just try to outrun 'em [EDIT: outrun the 153's i mean, i didnt mean outrun the enemy in an i-153. just to clarify].

I'd rather fly the 153 in cockpit-only/ no-icons server because the poor forward visibility stops me from flying the thing improperly.

The I-153 is a kung-fu fighter: you wait for your opponent to make a mistake and exploit it.

The ultimate passive-aggressive!
