In IL2 Sturmovik, rounds with HE compounds made explosive noises when they hit the ground, or the target.

I don't hear any of that in FB, OR AEP.

Also, what about the sounds of bullets whizzing by? Even when you've just ejected from the plane, you can't hear the bullets whizzing by, and those tracers are pretty noisy when they're within an inch of your head..

Why did they leave in FB/AEP?

Also, sometimes I can't even tell I'm being shot at.. There's a very lacking sound for planes being hit by bullets. Where did those go?

I don't know if you remember, or if this is the answer you are looking for but the sound was fixed a while back to make multi-player play more realistic.

The fact is that in a cockpit with a beast of an engine in front of you in real life there was very little you could actually hear except the engine and the radio in your headphones.

It was annoying in online play that your target could actually hear you sneak up on his 6 o'clock and he would move before you could shoot him, this was termed as "sonar" by forum members.

It wasn't realistic so external sounds were quietened, there were ridiculous moments where you could hear a flak gun shooting 100 Km away as well etc.

I still hear bullets impacting when I'm shot at though. Fly an open cockpit plane like the Rata and you'll hear much more.

Oh... Hmm.. You'd think that if you could hear a rocket's explosion 10km away, that you'd be able to hear a 30mms explosions 2 feet away, though. That's kinda what I really miss.

Also, I kinda wish Oleg would go back to the IL2 explosions for the 30mm. I think that explosion we have now is a tad exaggerated, isn't it? Or am I missing something?

While it's true you cant hear much from the cockpit, in external view you still cant hear squat from the bullets whizzing by the cam or impacting the ground! I miss those days too... http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

Zooming out might help...the engines of several aircraft flying close tend to drown out everything else in the radius of 300 meters...
