Very cool! I think that the checker illusion is a good demonstration of the complexity involved in the pixel shading of our games. We don't always see what we think that we see, and to get 3D objects to look real, there must be a lot of these tricks played on our eyes.

Thanks

Very insightful stuff. Gave me a clue for shading when skinning. Can now use the fill tool in PSP and apply the basic principal of greys and blacks to a gradient fill. Will come in very handy for top down veiwing of fuselages and getting that weathering look just right. Thanks for the link. It is a trick of the trade I will employ.

Try surrounding square "B" with post-its. Even with only one white square showing on the checkerboard pattern the brain wants to see it a lighter shade but as soon as all the surrounding white squares are covered it's exactly the same as square "A."

Very impressive site. I'll have to send this to some of my friends. Yes, I do have a few. Your title was a bit misleading though, "OT, a little something for the eyes". I was, shall we say, expecting something a little bit racier if you know what I mean, and I'm sure you do http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

damn it, there should be a warning on second link. Don't allow people who have had a few drinks to view it, didn't make me feel the greatest.

Yup, the checkerboard image is a classic, I posted it on this forum about a year ago... - It's mindboggling.

Hey,I posted BOTH those links a year ago! - That's funny. I got them from Kottke.org... - It seems they've gone a more round-a-bout way too, to arrive here!

I'll never look at things the same again!

O.K., maybe I will, but these links are interesting nonetheless.

Ok,ok....just used Paint to pull and paste squares together, and they ARE the same shade.....that's CRAZY man. Good post

(BTW with the thread title, I was kinda expecting to see something racier as well, like Janet Jackson's boob.)

I was saying about the TA152 that what it really needs is a weapon that fires out from the 6 o'clock position that causes the attacker's gunsight to look like the chinese snake. With such a weapon, no plane could successfully attack the TA from behind http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

On second thought, I bet nothing can attack it from behind anyway!

Yeeehaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaw!
