View Full Version : Who has a x800Pro and how much did it improve "Perfect" mode?

I'm looking to eventually upgrade to an ATI x800 Pro and was wondering if it will help out in "Perfect" mode enough to warrant the purchase.

I have an X800 Pro and it was a good increase. I'm using the Visiontek model.

As for the 6800 Tests I believe you are comparing a different model..ie: 6800U vs X800 pro not X800 XT.

In the benchmarks I've seen the X800 XT has beaten the 6800U

Hunter,

Do you think it will improve my FPS in Perfect Mode much? I'm in the mid teens to low twenties currently (depending on Map). Here are my system specs:

P4 3.06
1 Gig DDR ram
533 FSB
9700 Pro
Win XP

I would love to be in the high twenties to low thirties in Perfect Mode. Would this be possible with the x800 Pro?

I also have a 9700pro (going sometimes soon) and I believe you will get about 50% increase with X800Pro and about 100% increase with X800XT and this is with big reservation on my part. I am a bit reserved on this statement because I think it will be more then that as lots of reviews I've seen have X800XT double the performance over 9800XT (let alone "little" 9700Pro) so, surely you can expect a very nice boost in performance... and me too! http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

Getting a x800 pro this arvo.

will let you know the performance increase over my FX5600, runing a athlon 3200

Some tests in some areas have the Geforce 6800 running faster than the ati and vise versa.

Lets not get into the "whos got the longer willy " arguement.

Might even dust off the lomac cd too http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_cool.gif

How much is this sucker going for? $400-$500? I'm going to need to do some upgrading at some point for PF and BoB.... http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif

Perfect mode is... ummm perfect :P

just makes sure you get the latest drivers and re-install direct x as I had some problems.

Yes, the card is not cheap. Nor the geforce 6800. But the performance increases these cards make over the older models renders them all but obselete, especially from a price point of view.

you wont get a 100% increase over a 9800 pro

FPS in FB is also very dependant on your CPU as it is on your GPU

i would consider the X800XT as they are VERY good with AF & AA turned up

(& who doesnt like that stuff on high )

Pay the extra $100.00 and get the X800XT. The performance difference is staggering. Nvidia doesn't even have a retail card available yet. I passed on it because I don't want a power-hog Hoover vacuum in my machine.

actually, because the ATI card has a intelligent variable speed fan, my system is so much more quiet than the flat out fx5600.

I have a 2800+ and a 9700Pro and I use 2xAA+2xTAA (4xAA effective) 8xAF @ 1024x768 and I get low 40-50fps in Perfect mode, are you basing that off a single benchmark or are you basing that off in game performance?

Here are some screenies showing my FPS in game with various levels of AA+TAA

http://uploader.co.uk/images/2xtaa.png

http://uploader.co.uk/images/4xtaa.png

http://uploader.co.uk/images/6xtaa.png

As you can see, I have little reason to upgrade until at least next year http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

I hate to inform you of this but, Your TAA is not even working on any of those shots. None of them are above 60fps so it is using regular AA.

TAA will shut off below 60fps because it may become visible to the user that it is skipping every other frame.

It still looks good though!

I think i'lls ee a lot of difference becus I'm upgrading from a ATI 9200 Dual Display http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

But I'm going for ATI card because I don't wanna have a new PSU and becus I don't want a superpowerstuffthingy in my case.

I want ti to perform smoothly and run IL2 on perfect, not make everything go lightspeed...

6800 is "better" because it has Shader 3.0 model on it,but those games aint comming out yet until end of 2004 beginning 2005

and in the summer of 2005 i'm gonna upgrade thing rig(more ram etc, patch thigns up) and in 2006(BoB) I'm gonna build a custom rig with no looking at moeny..) so ATI will do,if you want a supercard right now for a supersystem RIGHT NOW buy the Nvidia with a 550 WATT PSU(if you wanna overclock and add neon and such

When I say considerable increase I mean over 10 FPS. I upgraded from a 9800XT and picked up 15 fps in perfect at the same settings...not a bad trade off http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-surprised.gif

For some reason the shimmer only turns up at 22FPS, and that was with a load of action going on

I got a question about the screen shots showing how a 6800 or a X800 will render such better graphics. If my machine only has a Ti 4600 how can see what one of these other high end cards are really doing? Seem's it's like the old commercial's advertising TV's and the spoksman saying "Just look at much better pictures these TV's show" when I can't see anything more than what my old crappy TV allow's.

6800 GT seems a better deal then the 800pro.
More pipelines, faster memory, 300w powersupply
needed so no need to upgrade that.
