AI pilots now strafe crashlanded planes EVEN when the pilots already bailed out!

Was looking over a rerun of a battle and noticed a 190 crashland. the pilot jumped out and ran. I was watching to see if the plane would vanish as is the norm, but then my AI P39 wingmen (2 of them) attacked the pilotless plane until it was destroyed!

Oleg`s way around the vanishing plane thing? Either way, it`s a great idea and more realistic! http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I`ve flown FB a long time and this has never happened before.

I can put up a screenie if you want.

Vote from me for screenies too ! Even a picture drawing will do http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif .

Oh, and I had a much better experience with 2.04 AI last night too, no dumb moves, so hopefully things continue to get better.

Here lands the stricken 190...

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v31/SeaFireLIV/farleave.jpg

pilot bails- runs FAR from aircraft.
Now at this point enemy AI planes would just forget any crashlanded aircraft because the pilots left. But not with 2.04...

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v31/SeaFireLIV/whatsthis.jpg

But what`s this?

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v31/SeaFireLIV/firing2.jpg

AI p39s strafing the empty plane!

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v31/SeaFireLIV/notenough.jpg
2 of them smoke it pretty bad, but its not enough for the AI vulchers! http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v31/SeaFireLIV/retboom.jpg

They come back and shoot till it explodes!

So there you go, another nice touch. The good stuff is there if people look.

Sorry, no extra artwork yet but will be updating my site soon (about a week ). http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Seafire, what was the scenario? Every mission I've flown since 2.04 the AI leave 'dead' planes well alone.

Were they your AI? Was it you crashed, was it online coop etc etc?

Cheers!

LOL, SeaFire ! Get your flak-jacket out. The 'Wurger'-ites will never forgive you for showing screenies of their bird in a, shall we say "undignified position", as you have just shown. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

@Dunkelgrun

I was flying Leningrad campaign (second part in the Winter) OFFline in the P39, I was number 3 I think.
This was a lucky mission cos in nearly everyone I have found the P39 hard to survive in... I might be flying it wrongly.

The 190s were obviously the enemy, so the 190 pilot that bailed was AI.

DGEN settings Campaign AI, etc set to high with IL2 Stab (great little program cos it let`s you write a diary).

The DGEN Campaign was not modified or changed at all, so I don`t understand why the differences with your 2.04 and mine....

Some possible reasons could be:

1. The engine was still running after the pilot bailed (but they carried on attacking when the plane was burning up - unlikely).

2. Perhaps the sim showed the pilot graphically running out, but he was really still there (very unlikely)

3. a quirk of FB 2.04, that even Oleg didn`t expect?

4. Ah... another thought. It could be a proximity thing. If they are real close they attack, if not they ignore it. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

5.
Another one! Perhaps the AI is based upon threat assessment too. Other FLYING enemy planes around and they don`t bother with crash landed ones....

I just really don`t know. All I can say is what I saw happen and I`ve posted it here for all to see.

Thanks m8, I've a couple of offline campaigns going, I'll check it out. Static rather than DGen campaigns thoough, I wonder if that's the difference? If it's not completely random of course! http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

It`s hard to get confirmation on Oleg on this, but in my time in flying the OFFLINE camapign as opposed to QMB, or one-off missions, I feel that there`s a big difference in the WAY the AI approaches you and how they fight you, to when they shoot you down or run away.

This is often why I haer people say `AI is useless this and that` and though AI could always be improved I NEVER find AI as bad as people make out. I still often fly offline compared to online because it can be quicker, efficent and JUST as enjoyable. Even more so.

To me, the REAL TEST of AI in all it`s abilities is in a proper Campaign, not QMB, not a one-off static mission. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

I believe it is a proximity thing. I remember when it was just IL-2 and the same thing happened. It's happened to me a few times.

they already did it in 2.01, i remember some coops where the IA were following planes and finishing them even though they had crash landed...

Even when the AI pilot had bailed? Well, amazing, that I could fly a sim for so long and not see this!

Hmm, it might be new to offline(2.04), I have never encountered this at all. I have encountered this online during online campaings(2.01). VR squad has a private online campaign were are running for the squad and one of our human pilots had to rtb for a damaged engine, she had to make a forced landing on an island a few kilometers away from the base and a 109 followed her all the way from the battle field(after everybody else had left), which was about 5 mins of flight, just to vulch the plane until it ran outa ammo. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/blink.gif

With the recent decision to release FBP en mass, the Flyable PBY toilet will flush counterclockwise when flown on the northern hemisphere FB maps, but flush clockwise if flown on southern hemisphere FP maps.
