View Full Version : Unh... can't get landing gear to drop in certain planes.

I'm joing a squadron soon and I decided to start practicing landings and takeoffs. For some reason when flying the I-16 with downloaded skin, I can't get the gear to lower. I put down the flaps and press "G" time and again and the gear don't fall. Does that plane need to have its gear lowered manually? If so I guess I better designate a key. If lowering them manually do I need to keep pressing the key till they lower?

Thanks in advance....

Just hold the key down until the gear lights turn green.

For I~16 only, you have to map a key to manually put gear up and down. I map "G" for up, "D" for down. When you fly I~16, don't map this to "Alt~G" or something dumb like that, cos with I~16 you have to punch the key about 44 times lol. That was 44 handcranks in real life.

If you are having mysterious engine failures, its cos of negative gee. You can restart but with I~16 you must have airspeed. Talk.

Wait for the Whining and Pulling of teeth with teh USA Wildcat gear over teh FP. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

I wish that hydraulic failures were more common after taking damage, not that I ever get damaged http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif, so that you'd have to lower the gear manually when on the landing approach and that some things would work "a little" and with degrading function, that would be cool.. gotta land before I loose control totally http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

The gear on the He111 can be cranked down/up by hand in game also.

It happens. A few times I've come in to land after taking damage only to realize that my gear isn't coming down and had to go around while cranking the thing into position. Nice touch I think.

It is a really nice touch, the thing is, in the planes where that happens, you should also be able to crank it up manually even when the hydraulics are working. For example, the P-40 had three ways to lower its landing gear, one automatic, two pumping the hydraulics, and third just pumping raw force into the mechanics of the machine.

Some statements such as this I do not understand...

Worf101 has literally answered his own question, so why didn`t he just go and try what he suggested above? It would have been quicker and easier than typing and waiting for an answer and he would have discovered he was correct.

I dunno, maybe I`m just too logical....

I wanted to make sure it was a "feature" and not some bug. Didn't mean to annoy anyone. Rather than trial and error it's nice to post a question and have friendly folks answer it when I get back. If there are questions I can answer, particularly about building new rigs, I'd be glad to answer.

Worf-

What made you think the skin had anything to do with it?
