Thanks to jbunelle for his excellent Fiat G50 skins that were my inspiration to revise my older Italian pilot skins to be used with Paul Lowengrin's DCG.
I have depicted the two basic Italian flight suits the standard brown with fur collared jacket and the tropical white one.I have also added a combination of a summer khaki drill trousers according to WWII photos.
The equipment (helmet, parachute, lifejacket)is italian issued(typical for the first years of the war).I've also added rank insignia for the six ranks the game and DCG supports.Currentlly DCG is not supporting Italian pilots(the Italians are hardcored to Hungarians)but Paul told me this is going to change in the next volume.
Note that the photos of the pilots for the DGen folder are not real pilots but the faces used for the skins are photomontaged to old photos
Please Italian friends or others who have special knowledge on uniforms and equipment of the Regia Aeronautica have a good look on the pic and if you notice any mistakes let me know, because my references were basically old pics found through the net.
Thanks!

I 've been improving them still.I redone the parachute harness buckle and increased the contrast only on uniform to achieve better matching of the body to the head ,because in game the head seems to be crisper than the body(Thanks to Oldguy who remarked it).I'll test them thoroughly in DCG.I'm waiting for a beta from Paul.I have only one dilema:to include or not rank insignia because you can choose the right rank, skins in the begining of a Campaign but as Campaign evolves you can't follow the promotions.
What do you think?

Just say no to ranks on the skins.

Less work for you = more good stuff getting made! http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/59.gif

The ranks is not a big deal considering the work required, they are already made after all,but I desided not to include them in the final release to avoid the promotions mess.Their placement on the lower cuff makes them practically invisible anyway.
Paul sent me the DCG v2.70 beta and works fine with the skins and photos.I'll make some tests and I think I'll be able to release them,in il2skins,by the end of the week.

They are very good near perfect, but i need some time to take some images (colored) for you, like these (pre-war italian "fly-skin"):

http://ourworld.cs.com/VeltroF/PilotaB.jpg

http://ourworld.cs.com/VeltroF/PilotaC.jpg

I've very good pics with your skins (standard WW2 italian skins), and i must say again: "you are close to perfect!".

For the ranks.....i don't know, you could make two versions: "marked" and "unmarked" for ex.
Really a very good work, thank you a lot.

Thanks a lot for the pics they are realy great!I have seen this flight suit worn in Spanish civil War.The rest equipment is German:
LKp S 101 helmet,HM-15 oxygen mask and the throat mics.Have you got such quality pics on the Italian parachutes?
I have improoved the skins further(more detailed parachute harness buckle) and desided not to add rank insignia in the final release to avoid messing up with the promotions as the campaign evolves, after all the are barely visible.
(Veltro I could add the ranks as seperate layers for you to customise them).
I increased the contrast only on the body and now the skins look more balanced considering the, in game, dynamic lighting.(Thanks Oldguy for your remark!).Added a sepia tint on the pilots portraits.
Now testing in DCG v2.70 beta...

I'm afraid you won't because since they hit the silk the default pilot takes over http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_razz.gif

Hi Veltro!
Thanks for the pics their quallity is great but ,unfortunatelly, in almost, all the flight gear ,ecxept clothing, is German issued and this is of course a historical fact ecspecially later in the war but I want to represent the Italians equiped in Italian issued gear.I may add some seperate skins with german gear to customise.

BTW, did they use psychos as pilots or what? The guy in the skin is scary... see, see, his murderous eyes... http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-surprised.gif

I know elephant, but is quite difficult say "this is THE italian skin". Our pilots used a mix of italian and german equipment, and "sometimes" they personalized their own equipment.

Now, go here (EAF/51):

http://ruffini.freeweb.net/Storia_7.htm

Which is the "official" uniform? This is THE problem.
http://ruffini.freeweb.net/Fotog/Pics_51/Piloti/pilots2.jpg

I would like say "this one is the Macchi's pilot skin".

Thanks a lot! I've got this stuff already and I've got all the german equipment in my templates done too.Do you think I should add german equipment as well?

09-01-2004, 03:48 AM
First of all, you could add a skin with blue pants, as you see in the pics (like "typical italian skin"). German equipment it's ok, for sure as standard, for the ANR pilots (Macchi C 205 "Veltro" and Fiat G55 "Centauro", that probably i hope, we have in the next patch-addon with also MC 202).

Thank a lot to you elephant, your pilot skins are really great!
