My question is:

What is this actually supposed to fix?

"AI will check for friendly fire more thoroughly"

Does this mean that they will be more careful if you happen to be on thier 12 'o clock?

If your chasing a bandit and they happen to dive with guns blazing and hit you, does this count as checking?

What about if you are on a bandit in a TnB and they keep on turning just to get a shot and they hit you, I dont mean hit you with their fire, I mean HIT http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-indifferent.gif you with thier aircraft?

I had the above happen just earlier(offline), I was in a TnB with a CR42 in my J8A and next thing I hear is "This is One, Im bailing out", followed by Friendly aircraft destroyed. I checked my aircraft and noticed I lost my WHOLE rudder. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-mad.gif Now I dont care for points, I would rather get the mission accomplished.

This does sound like a whine http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/cry.gif ....it pretty much is because its annoying http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-wink.gif . Im just asking what this really means. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

What they mean by this is that they will now be more accurate when firing on friendlies, there are no friendlies in the sky anymore.

For few weeks I am flying with "leaked" patch 2.01. This patch have this improvement already. And I must say that from that time I was never shooted down by friendly air. But generally AI is still suicidally stupid.

the only thing that bugs me is AAA freindly fire when on a bandits six. All the campaigns I played I have never been killed once from ai aircraft.

Maybe you experienced differently but I have never seen it.

Heh,is really hard even for human AAA guners to shoot at the pursued/pursuer enemy. What can we expect from AI gunners? Nothing I believe.
I was annoyed by the AA/AAA mounted on ships.I thought is insane and way overboard. But after I have seen some WW2 footage I admit that is suicide to attack alone even a ship, except if you take it by surprise.Too bad IL2FB doesn't model surprise element.See?One more whine for triggers in FMB http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

As said above.

I too have never been hit by my own side while flying with the AI.

Lot's of times I got nailed by my own AAA fire.

I`m not sure where this "friendlies shoot me down in 2.01" is coming from.

I know for a FACT that AI friendlies will IMMEDIATELY stop shooting if they hit you and sometimes break off. I posted pictures of this a while back.

It does seem that they need to actually HIT you with at least ONE bullet before they realise their error.

So I was a little puzzled when the 2.04 Readme said `AI will check for friendly fire more thoroughly`.

All I can assume is that friendly fire will know NOT to fire WITHOUT needing to hit you first. I wait excitedly to test this when the patch is finally released.

Anyone saying they shoot you down is getting mixed up with something else here because now this is incredibly unlikely.

As for Collisions, well I don`t think that comes under `Friendly fire`.

Never actually gotten shot down by a flight mate at least not IIRC.

Now getting plowed under by one is another matter. Last night it happened in 2 consecutive tries at a mission.

Escorting 3 elements of Lagg3's in 4 P-39's, the mission becomes a large 16 red(3 Migs joined in)vs 14 mixed F-4's &G-2's.

Those Lagg jockies were enthusiastic to say the least, watching the replay later not only did one manage to take me out trying to down my smoker target but 2 others fly themselves right into the ground trying to perform low speed manuvers with the F-4's.

It would be funny if not so frustratingly ignorant http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/52.gif

In the leaked 2.02 patch your wingmen DO NOT shoot you when they're on your six! http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

If they are already firing upon the enemy and then you fly into the patch of their guns then you will get hit. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_razz.gif

I've been shot down by friendly aircraft AI before, and I didn't move between a wingman and the target. He was just shooting away with the cannon on the P39 right over my shoulder as I was chasing the target, and on the second shot he took the back half off of my plane.

About a week ago I was flying online and was chasing a target over my own airfield when I got taken out (completely) by my own AAA, which was a first for me. In all the times I've been in similar situations before, I'd never been so much as touched by it.

So at a guess, I'd say this is to (re)fix the friendly AAA. However, I'll take anything that means I don't have to worry as much about my own team shooting me down.

have been downed by friendly fire myself.

going after the enemy, riding on his six, when suddenly I get blown to bits by no less than two friendly me110`s.

Very frustrating. Had already downed 3 enemy planes that mission http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

Hmm so I guess its more of a case of "if" and "when" it does happen. Sometimes I do happen to fly in the bullet path of my wingy but thats because I never saw him. Now I get shot alot by my AI wingies especially on 3rd party missions(thats where the collision took place with my J8A). I will be chasing a bandit and they will be farther out than I am (about .5 meters, and ill be at around .3) and AI will start guns blazing and I get caught in the middle. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-indifferent.gif It also happens on Dgen(stock) generated games as well. As far as AAA is concerned I tend to stay away from that help http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-wink.gif , of course the occasionnal jink now and then helps with gettting the guy hit.....but then you have to worry about getting hit after you pass the AAA emplacements http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

Too bad about the collisions falling under Friendly Fire, I lose alot of AI pilots due to this and sometimes I get caught with them. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_frown.gif Oh well, I guess we'll see what really happens when its released...or maybe I should revisit my tactics. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Hi,

The most annoying incidence of 'friendly fire' is AAA nicking kills when online, esp. for kill monkeys. There's no point downing an aircraft within a 100x10^6km radius of an AAA gun cos it will more than often bag it before it hits the ground...

Please fix this, Oleg.

In an FS coop I was shot down by a friendly on like my third mission. A few missions ago a squadmate was shot down by a friendly. That they stop shooting after they have shot you to hell is no help, they should not shoot to begin with. If you have never had it happen then perhaps you should fly more with low quality AI wingmen.

Another problem I have seen is He111s flying in tight formation shooting each other up when an enemy arrives, the AI will shoot through a nearby friendly bomber if it is between them and the enemy.

What annoys most is that SWOTL AI -back to 1992- was far better in its shooting balance. I know it had no collision and UFO FM, besides they only fought TnB -which I guess make it far easier.

But you never were shot at by friendlies, and bombers/AAA had the natural balance between misses and Robocop accuracy.

Your AI mates should not fire if you are in range inside their forward field of vision, and that's all.
