I know that Germans needed 40 points to get the Knight's Cross in 1941. As more people got more points and the later in the war it got the points were increased. So what did they need in 1944 to get the Knight's Cross? My German pilot in IL2 has 97 kills in 1944 and he still doesn't have the Knight's Cross. So this is what sparked my interest. Any information would be appreciated.

DnnC, as you have quite correctly said, there was a point system for awards in Luftwaffe. The amout of points depended on whether you shot down fighter(least points), 2-engine bomber or 4-engine bomber(most). There were some points awarded even for forcing the bomber to leave the formation.

Still, the amount of points that were required for getting the awards differed greatly in the West and on the eastern front. In the East it was considerably higher, especially later in the war. I'm not sure if this is reflected in the game, though...

Ahem ...

First fact is that the point system was not introduced before 1943 (or even 1944) and then it was only used over the Reich or the occupied Western Europe. It didn't see use on the Eastern Front at all.

Second fact is that award criterias changed steadily. Even within the years there can be enormous differences between Knights Crosses for different pilots (e.g. Willi Reschke never exceeded 40 kills - yet he was awarded the KC).
