View Full Version : German & Italian Throttle Levers

Shouldn't German and Italian throttle levers accellerate by PULLING on them instead of PUSHING like it happens on Allied planes?

I remember reading accounts of American pilots who had to get used to the inverse functioning of the throttle on captured German planes.

Am I wrong..?

IIRC, this feature was only in Italian fighters (and perhaps in French ones also) - but not in German planes.

How do we explain this then:

"A quick, cursory look inside and a firm but positive input with right rudder, Jochen, as he is known by his friends, corrects the aircraft's slight skid. Throttle full aft and maximum power, more pull on the stick and the Messerschmitt starts to gain rapidly on the brown and tan camouflaged British fighter."

German planes did require you to pull back the throttle for power, at least thats what i says in this book...

Would be nice touch, but a minor point i guess.

French I know operated in the reverse direction. This caused problems for the French a/c that went to the British after the fall of France.

I can't recall his name right now, but there was this American P-51 pilot who got shot down over Germany and after hiding away for a couple of days came across a German airfield, so he climbed the fence and STOLE a Fw.190 which he managed to take off with and belly-landed back at his base (could not find the undercarriage lever) under the eyes of his astonished comrades.

The story is true (even if it sounds incredible)and in it he says the only difficulties he encountered at first were because of the throttle working the other way around.

Can anyone remember his name? His story was reported in Aces 2 published by Squadron Signal.

I thought it was only french fighters...the ms 406 in particular that used this system.

The only two planes that are flyable in our sim had in reality reversed thorttle comparing to most other nations planes. It is Fiat G.50 and Fiat CR.42.

However Fiat G.50 modeled as Finnish Air Force aircraft and they were reworking this "feature" to normal movement that not to cause the problems for Finnish pilots.

CR.42 has it like in Italian original aircraft. Becasue we didn't find the confirmation of change it in Hungary. Modelled - Hungarian Air Force CR.42.
