If I die or crash, what do I hit to end the mission or get back to the main menu?

Hi, welcome to FB. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Hit Esc, and then Quit Mission. That's how you have to end every mission. To not quit after hitting Esc, just hit Esc again.

Cheers,
Mike

Thanx, but for some reason, the esc key doesn't seem to do the trick. Nothing happens when I press it.

Is this also how I would skip through the into movies to missions?

Yes, usually pressing Esc ends intro tracks (films). You can disable the intro film though. Go to your IL-2 root directory and double-click the file il2setup.exe. This is the utility for configuring many video and sound options. On the lower left deselect the box labeled Intro. Don't know whether this cuts out intro tracks other than when starting up the game.

Using Esc is the only way of exiting an offline mission besides just killing the game. You will have to turn the map off (press M) in order for Esc to work if it is up. I have never heard of Esc not working otherwise. Pressing Esc has always brought up the exit/options menu for me.

Just a dumb suggestion, but if Esc is not working, maybe something is funny with your keyboard? I spilled water on mine a while back and it still acts up from time to time.

Well, my escape key seems to work with anyother program.

Another problem I'm having is that my joystick is screwed. The directions are messed up. Left and Right is mixed up. Up and down work just fine.

I wonder if it could be that you are losing keyboard control during the game. Does it respond to other keyboard inputs during play? Raising gear, flaps, etc. require input unless they're programmed to joystick buttons.

For these kinds of issues you can take advantage of the knowledgeable minds in IL-2 Community Support:

Thanx for your help. I'm gonna try reinstalling to see if that works. Is there one big update for IL2 anywhere or do I still have to do all the patches separately?

Escape key not working is an easy one.

In your game folder there is a file called conf.ini

Open it using notepad and look for the following lines:

[HotKey gui]
Escape=activate

If they're not there, add them, save and close.

This should fix it http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
