I never got a chance to answer your question the other night.

Here was the scenario and briefing:

Updated Pacific map

United States and United Kingdom versus Japan
Years: Mainly '42 and '43

Ground targets located at each base.
Moderate ground AAA.
One Destroyer guards each island.
Other convoys radomly located in the waters.

Plane sets:

You asked why the Ki-84 (A) was in the mix. In case you missed the Mainly in the briefing or need further reasoning it was added out of a request for something to counter the B&Z heavy sided Allies Plane Set. As was the UK plane set to counter the T&B Zeros.

Do you really think it was unfair? Look at the plane set again. Without the Ki the Japanese base would've been scarce to say the least. I wouldn't have minded it personally but it was already too crowed at the Allies base.

I couldn't imagine what kind of whining there would be at Gold base if all they had was the Zero to pick from (for fighters). Like I said personally I wouldn't have minded. During my turns in the Zero I just would've pushed on with patience. But you have to remember as a host I'm also tasked with keeping the server full which means trying to keep the sides even.

Gemini...

If the Ki whiners get too hard to say no to, you could severely limit the US/British planeset.

How about:

P 40E

P 39 N

P 38 J

as the only fighters?

And as an outside pick the Brewster Buffalo.

I'll be flying your Pacific server more from now on...be sure.

Kozhedub: In combat potential, the Yak-3, La-7 and La-9 fighters were indisputably superior to the Bf-109s and Fw-190s. But, as they say, no matter how good the violin may be, much depends on the violinist. I always felt respect for an enemy pilot whose plane I failed to down.

BpGemini, you shouldn`t worry too much about whiners of your server. The rules you set are YOUR rules, with whatever planesets you want. Of course within reason (no banning people for shooting you down or using correct tactics like running away).

You start posting on the forums because of one whiner of your server and it`ll never end.

Ignore them. Use the server you settings you like otherwise you`ll stop enjoying the Sim/Game.

Trust me Seafire, I'm not worried about a whiner here and there. I've been through my share of them.

http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

And I'm not calling John Banks a whiner either. He brought up a question and I figured this is a good place and topic to resolve in here. A lot of threads about the Ki-84 being uber have reared there ugly heads. I figure a bit of a reality check could be had by checking out these plane sets and those with "Ki concerns" could ask themselves if they're concerns are a little off base.

I was only wondering to see a 44 KI in a so called 42-43 server. I don't care about Ki's as i think the A6M5 is more dangerous, as she is more agile than the KI and i have downed far more KIs than Zeros.

It was only irritating cause when i read 42-43 or something similar, i expected to see a proper plane set. Adding "non period planes" by demand is up to the host but shouldn't be an option in "FR" games. But AFAIK, it wasn't a real FR game anyway right? We had full icons and externals?

But what really bugs me is to see a "pacific" server, which is full of 109s and 190s. 99% of the games in the HL are on the eats or west front with German and Russian planes. Maybe 1% or less are pacific servers and sometimes you see the same crap plane sets in there as well. That really drives me nuts hehe.
So your KI was unexpected but still welcomed http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif. It is a pacific plane nonetheless.

No way, the Zero should only be considered more dangerous than the Ki if the opponent doesn‚'t understand B&Z tactics. The Ki can dictate a fight. It has a superb roll rate. Good firepower and good power plant, which gives it great speed and climb. If you‚'re trying to turn fight a Zero with a P-38 I can see you having many problems otherwise the Zero has to win with patience since most U.S. planes can dictate the fight versus a Zero.

That‚'s why I put ‚"Mainly‚"Ě in the briefing. I didn‚'t want people to expect a FULL Pacific plane set but I did honor the request of the Ki because I agreed it was a good request. I don‚'t just do things because people request them. They have to be a sensible idea. I thought adding the Spits to counter the Zero and the Ki to counter the P-51/P-38/P-47s was a good idea. I put ‚"Mainly ‚'42 and ‚'43‚"Ě to assure that people didn‚'t expect a full range but would still expect maybe something slightly out of the range.

No, it was nearly Full Real. We had Internal PL and Friendly icons ONLY. There are NEVER externals on my servers (not since the days of the original IL-2).

I agree with you there. I‚'m not fond of those server types. The thing I really hate is the full spectrum for both sides German versus German or Russian versus Russian. Barf.
