Pictures of PTO/CBI ground objects.

Note the camo painted on the roofs. Without this, they'd look fairly generic.

This shows two things I mentioned in the FMB idea thread. One, the palm trees are in rows. We need some large tiles of palms as the crops they were. Two, make half sunk ships to place on beaches, or anywhere else sunk ships would settle, not sink.

Thanks for posting those. Where are they from?

These images are all from IMPACT a magazine distributed to squadrons during the war. It has been compiled (in 1980) into an 8 volume set. I got all 8 for $75.

As for the FPS problem, yeah, that's why I suggested the devs make a palm forest object the same way they make huge regular forest objects (the ones that look OK from the air, but not from the ground). In addition, they should make another 4 palm object, but with 4 palms spaced in a row instead of the clump they have now.

One problem is that airfields frequently made use of the palm groves by putting their dispersal areas within the woods.

Captions explain all of it. Man, I wish players could skin ground objects.

something close combat had in its campaigns was a feature whereby if a tank or anything else mechanical was destroyed on a battlefield and that map was reused the wrecks would still be there.

It would be cool if sturmovik had towns that remained wrecked for a few turns and planes that scared the earth from the last mission. Even runways should be put out of action for a time

A US prefab hanger. Note that the planes are drawn in on top of a photograph. This was from the Nov. 1943 issue, so this structure was introduced by Oct.'43 at the latest.

Punt!

Here's a picture of some real revetments in Rabaul:

Here're revetment objects from the screenies (they're the same!):

I'll add again that it would be nice to have a palm tree crop area that we could place. It would work like the current large forest objects. There would be to poly layers up high above the ground (not the 3+ we have now). Then I would suggest adding a player-placable vertical poly that would have palm trunks to match, with a side of the fronds. You'd drag em around til the crowns of the palms matched up---we'd only need to place these in ares where players might see them, netc to dromes, targets, etc.

Shredded palm trees (what I'd like to see the blank damage state from current palms be):

C-47As at Finschhafen, New Guinea. The picture shows two things, the Marston matting, and how close trees came to many strips.

This shows a P-61 in 1944. The gas carts are typical though, that is why I scanned this one.
