Clay.Pigeon has sent me a screen shot of the p-61 he's modedling for FB and i have agreed to host his updates on the 310th Site for as long as he need us to. I must admit i am very exited about this aircraft and hope for the best that Oleg approves it. From the 1st screen shot clay sent me..i'm very impressed. This is the coolest 3rd party model since Gibbage anounced his p-38's. Any way click on the link below to view the cueent progress on the P-61 by Clay.Pigeon.

I really hate to say it, since Pigeon has obviously put a lot of blood, sweat and tears into his work, and it's my favorite plane...

...but those pics show some serious contour issues, namely the belly and gunner (middle cockpit) canopy areas.

I have 1/48 scale plans--VERY GOOD ONES--for this gorgeous bird if that'll help. I've also recently build 2 scale plastic models of 61Bs that I've put 100+ total hours into. I even have photographs and diagrams of the cockpits of both As and B models.

Clay: if you read this and want a hand or scans of any of the materials I have, by all means, email me-- hwhnn@hotmail.com . I'll be more than glad to help.

Anything to get this lady flyable. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

PlaneEater i think that this model is just one days work.
so it's far from compleation. I'm sure that clay is doing the cockpit as well. so any info or pictures on the cockpit or gunners position would probably be more that welcome. How ever there does seem to be an enourmus wealth of info on this bird on the net. Zeno's has a tone of stuff. Far more than any other aircraft i've found so far. Keep your fingers crossed./i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

That is about 8 hours of work, contour issues are not a real problem, because at any time the modeler can pull points around at any time to refine a curve.

Where a modeler realy earns his money is getting the most detail he can with a very limited number of polys. And right now I am in the prosses of refining the model, and adding some detail.

When I rendered this my camera had a pretty high zoom on it. It throws people who don't know 3D programs off. The tail looks HUGE!!! Next time I will render it using a 50mm lens (that is closer to the human eyes perspective).

PlaneEater, I also bought a 1/48 model last night and will be using that to help. If you look at the side view at the bottom of the image, I think that is pretty close. You can compare it to my sig. But it will get better.

When it comes time to do the cockpit I would realy like to see your pics. I will drop you a line.

Yes it did. Mostly as a fighter-bomber/night intruder.

For some history on the P-61 get the Osprey book (though there is some issues with Osprey books).

"P-61 Black Widow Units of WW2" by Warren Thompson

ISBN 1-85532-725-2

http://www.ospreypublishing.com/title_detail.php/title/i/smilies/16x16_smiley-tongue.gif 7252~ser=COM~per=36

"The first aircraft to be purposely designed as a radar-equipped nightfigher, Northrop's P-61 Black Widow was heavily influenced by early RAF combat experience with radar-equipped aircraft in 1940/41. Built essentially around the bulky Radiation Laboratory SCR-720 radar, which was mounted in the aircraft's nose, the P-61 proved to be the largest fighter ever produced for frontline service by the USAAF. Twin-engined and twin-boomed, the Black Widow was armed with a dorsal barbette of four 0.50-in Browning machine guns and two ventrally-mounted 20 mm cannon. This volume features all the frontline users of the mighty P-61, and includes many first-hand accounts from pilots and gunners who saw action in the Pacific, Mediterranean and Western Europe.

Contents
# Prelude to Combat
# European Theatre
# Mediterranean Theatre
# Pacific Theatre
# China/Burma/India Theatre
# Appendices"

Awesome!!!

This will be incredible fun if it ever gets into FB. However, I hope its systems can be modeled accurately by the Maddox team without any major coding rework. It has a lot of stuff no plane in FB has yet, like the remote control turret or the intercept radar.

Though I'm sure radar is possible, since the He-111 has that interesting radar-like landing screen (you know, the screen with the fuzzy green dot in the middle).

I support your efforts to create this plane, and if there's any way the dynamics can be programmed accurately, it will be a glorious day indeed for flight simulation.

Hello Everyone,

I just wanted to write to say that I am working on the P-61. Many people have expressed how excited they were about it. The idea has recieved a bigger reception then I thought it would.

But, I just sold my house and this weekend I am moving my family up to the University of Utah where I will be attending Law School. I will be away from my computer for a bit, and I will be away from a internet connection for a bit longer.

But it will get finished. This is what I am going to be doing once the wife and kids are asleep and I need a break from studying. Don't dispair. I will have a big surprise for you in a few weeks.

Then we will just have to see if Oleg will accept my offering and put in an add-on /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-tongue.gif
