S~ Everyone... I've decided to start a dedicated private server but I have a few questions before i begin. The server will also have its own website with forums and a host of other flight simulator, aircraft related information and links.

1) What are the maximum amount of aircraft(player) that can be allowed in a session/ game. Or is 32 the max regardless of the servers capabilities? I would like to have a set-up that can allow at least 100 multiplayer flown aircraft in the same session. Would this be possible?
2) What setting would most of you be intrested in? I myself prefer full real but for some ( not myself)this can be real boring if the map is very large and there are very few aircraft flying around. However ,I beleive full real could in fact be allot of fun for those who require a little more action if there were plenty of enemy aircraft to shoot. I am flexible and can come up with a happy medium, like limited Icons, cockpit veiw, minimap, and possibly the speedbar.
3) What scenerios do you prefer?. I like doing missions and Allied and Axis dog fights. I rather not play on servers where both sides have the same aircraft available.

This is just the begining , and I want to get some of your opinions before I run and spend allot of cash and time setting this thing up.

Thanks

Sure it`s possible, but keep in mind that you have to preload all 100... and that`s like 400MB+ right there.. Question is...do you really need all 100?

Most common setups are...
1)FR + lim friendly icons + minimap + speedbar
2)FR + icons + extern + minimap + speedbar
3)FR + Opep pit icons + extern + minimap + speedbar

That`s your call.

If you prefer realistic scenarios with axis vs allies, you don`t have to worry about 100 planes http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif 10-20 Planes usually cover it.

Kozhedub: In combat potential, the Yak-3, La-7 and La-9 fighters were indisputably superior to the Bf-109s and Fw-190s. But, as they say, no matter how good the violin may be, much depends on the violinist. I always felt respect for an enemy pilot whose plane I failed to down.

Thanx CrazyIvan for the reply. I guess I didn't express myself correctly. I intend to have a server capable of hosting at least 100 people in a single multiplayer session. Is that still posible?????

Thanx

Most i`v seen is 64, not sure how this achieved... but i suspect it will be a lag disaster unless you have a NASA computer with T3 line. Besides...i doubt there is a computer that will handle 100 planes in the air from client`s point of view. Maybe the one that Hunter is building will LOL

Connection speed is your biggest worry.

You'd need a bare minimum of a 10mb dedicated line or maybe more for 100 players.

A good dual server with enough RAM (2gb) would be enough from a horespower point of view.

Personally I'd love to see such a server but I can't imagine anyone has the resources to allow such an amount of bandwidth to be used for an FB server.

Only the most popular games justify those sorts of costs.

I dont have the rig yet. I've already talked to a selected manufacture and it looks like they have just the system that can do the Job. But it is definately a very beefy piece of equipment. I could pratically hear the sales rep licking his chops when I told him what i was planning to do with this thing. If I get the system our sim experience will be elevated to a new level. This beast has 4 gigs DDr Ram and dual 3.06 gig processer/533 fsb for starters. This is just the begining but it could be a done deal if there is enough intrested. I hate to be all by myself LOL. I curently own a dell 4500 with 2.26 pentium ,533 system bus,2 gigs ddr ram, and a G Force 4 Ti 4600 vid card.

It's all about the connection man.

If you're buying a new server buy dual Opteron not Xeons.

Ah, cool beans. The more dedicated servers the better.

Please..pretty pretty please dont make it another 44/45 planeset server. Choose 41, 42 or 43..we have waaaay to few of those. And i like the idea of axis vs. allies. I am no friend of mixed planesets either.

For the settings. No icons...those are immersion killers number one imho. All i ask for is speedbar and padlock. I never understood why ppl choose outside view over padlock. Outside view is much more wonderviewlike then pl.
But with padlock, i can at least use gas, trim and flaps while keeping the enemy in sight.

I won't comment on too much but I will say that IL-2 seems to love dual CPU's. I'll also say, just as was already said, the limits you are wondering about will not be on your end, but on the client end.

Think of a 56k modem joining a server with 75 fliers. I actually wonder if it could even join.
