Wow! that is one short demo! they could have done more for almost 200mbs. Looks amazing though! and it felt like i was playing myst for my first time http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif great sound, but the puzzle was way to easy, demo was way to short. I tried to interact with alot of stuff, books painting notes and even after i read the books and notes, i feel the demo was way to short. oh well. This looked like the same demo they showed in their video demonstration. so im guessing it wont be in the game. My only problem is that i wish i was able to change the resolution higher than 1024x768. Other than that the game is gonna rock from the very little sample we get from the demo http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

i thought everything was really low quality, blurry. Even with the DoV effect off.

whats up with that?

Thanks for the mirror ncerniglia! I wasn't getting anywhere with DXL.

3D Gamers has it now (http://www.3dgamers.com/dl/games/myst4/myst4demopc.exe.html) as well. Bittorrent, FTP, and HTTP links.

To anyone who has played the demo, are there any storyline spoliers? Like does it look like its a chunk out of the middle of the game that might give away something too early? I'm worried about all these "notes".

Or does it seem to be relatively independent of the full game, and so non-spoilerish?

Yes the graphics did look blurry. I hope its just becuase the demo needed to be small. Hopefully the full version will have higher res renders and vids.

Your welcome AFGNCAAP.

Nebodin. I dont think there are any spoilers. The demo seems like it could be from somewhere in the game itself. It didnt ruin anything for me.

I started the demo.. kind of figured out the puzzle, but need to spend some quality time with it . . still too wired from playing Doom 3 http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/smileys-gun2.gif .

Anyhow, I have an Nvidia GeForce 6800 GT with Nvidia's latest drivers (Forceware 61.77), and if I put DoV on, I get a nice grey fog instead of graphics. I turn it off, and it looks fine. What does DoV do? The graphics were nice as well as a bit better than Myst III, but I might be missing some awesome feature by not being able to experiece DoV. I have 4X antialiasing and 8x Anistropic Filtering on.. (and I like it that way http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/smileys-gun2.gif ) is that a possible problem?

But, but, but . . I have Nvidia. It's "The Way it's meant to be played!" http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v140/Jnathus/Nvidia_Way.jpg

UBISOFT! Ya need to fix this!

Depth of View slightly blurs objects that are far away from you, while objects that are close to you stay in focus -- much like the way a camera works. It makes scenes look more natural than the usual "hyperreal" feeling of computer graphics, where everything is unnaturally sharp.

As for blurriness, DOV would produce that on distant objects if it's on. There also might be some blurriness resulting from running the demo on a monitor of higher resolution than 1024x768, which is the maximum resolution it supports. Hopefully the full version supports higher resolutions -- I did notice a bit of aliasing around the hand in a couple of spots -- but I have to say I thought it looked pretty great nonetheless.

what happened to the 600m download?

The 600 mb demo will be released a few days from now. I believe the "puzzle" game happening in another thread on this board will herald the arrival of the 600 mb demo upon it's completion("five rings" or something or other is the name of the thread... probably not rings... but LOTR being a part of the current collective unconcious it's the first thing that springs to mind, and I'm too lazy to click back. Instead I would rather waste time typing out this absolutely pointless reply as my (likely) mistake would probably be easily understood).

EDIT: "five pieces"... it's "five pieces"... DOH!!!

I understand.
What kind of difference could 400m make? thats a little large for an extra node and a little more video.

Ditto, the demo was definitely a sweet taste of what is to come.

I thought the size of it was perfect, just a little snippet of the game to give you an idea of what you are in for.

I agree about the blurriness (word?) of the images. I can't actually tell the difference between depth of field being on or off. It doesn't make sense how thats supposed to be realistic anyway. It would be realistic if we were short/near-sighted, or if the image is supposed to be a rendition of a a photo - but if its supposed to be your view of the world... well when i look at things in the distance they are in focus, not blurry and i would expect the same from this game.

Other than that, the game seems awesome. It does feel incredibly alive, just things like the trees swaying and the dust in the light makes it feel far less static than earlier games like riven. And the mood is just right, its got that myst series quality too it that just makes me all warm inside http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

Why do people keep saying it's blurry?!?

Ugh, it's probably cuz I dont understand anything about computers...

Then again, what's to understand? it's beautiful...

The only strange thing I noticed was when:

spoiler spoiler spoiler:

you solve the fire-place puzzle, go down the elevator, door opens, and suddenly the light's changin'...

WTF?

I just hope I wont start noticing those "blurry" graphics only cuz you did...

I'm really dissapointed in the demo.. 191mb for that?.. like a 3 minute play? not only that but it looks ugly.. the backgrounds are jagged and blurry and the so called "groundbreaking" effects nonexistent.. what.. some animations in the background?.. please.. games that came out 10 years ago had that..and the blurriness, I suppose its meant to be like depth of field effects but it completely fails to give any sense of depth whatsoever, feels like I'm back flipping trough pages of a picturebook as opposed to truly have a sense of exploration as Uru did.. I'm completely unimpressed by the highly annoying animated hand cursor who only seems to serve the purpose of slowing down the players experiense so that 20 second demo takes 3 minutes to complete.

Unless the game is a LOT and I mean .. a LOT more impressive than this its gonna get slaughtered in reviews and possibly also cause the end of the Myst series due to bad sales!

I thought the demo was great! The graphics were sharp, and while the background wasn't quite as clear as the foreground, I wouldn't say it was blurry. I could see everything in the background just fine. And I saw animations in far better quality than anything I've seen in games before. Everything looks far more realistic and moves far more realistically than I've seen in the past.

And maybe you're just super-fast, Oopzie, but it took me a bit more than 3 minutes to complete the demo.
