I have a Track IR 1 and was just wondering if anyone is using the Track IR Base ball cap with TIR 1 and if the cap is worth it.

Birthday's coming up, might be a nice gift from someone.

regards kfurni

I have got track-ir 1, and recently bought the cap. I find it a lot better than dots stuck to a normal baseball cap!

Use a ping-pong ball or a small polystyrene ball (stick it to a black cap) - TrackIr will identify it a lot better http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif - It then sees allways the same "circle" / "dot" it likes that http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

The hat works great. It came free with my TrackIR, so I wasn't expecting much, but it works better than anything i've tried before.

I use a normal baseball cap with an active IR led built into the peak. Works a treat!

On edit, looks like the "" key on y keyboard has stopped working http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

I use a ball cap with 3 of the larger, square pieces of reflective material stuck to the edge of the front of the brim. Works great.

I have the hat as well.

After answering the front door with dots on my head and a pen cap extruding from the top....well, my son's friends thought I was psycho.

The hat not only works great, but scares the neighborhood kids alot less now http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Salute!

Sure. the TrackHat is great, and works a lot better than anything I have used (though I haven't used a LED yet)

Any baseball cap will work, you just need to sew some reflective strip to the peak.

I have the hat but it doesn't work too well. I can't get close enough to the camera. So my good friend and US neighbour Gurypuddle is making me a boom which which will fit on my AKG headset and bring the reflective dot much closer to the camera. I understand closeness is the key to good tracking.

Nobody ever rings our doorbell except the guy from the government who sells dog licences.

I sit back a good meter from my TIR unit! No loss in performance.

Hmm...I got a track hat with my TrackIR2. But it's too hot here (Phoenix, AZ) to be wearing a hat all the time (esp. in my west facing office/game room).

I use a headset with a mic. Originally, I put 1 dot on the forward facing part of the mic. It worked OK except when I had my head turned far enough to check my 6. So I added 3 more dots and it improved, but still wasn't stellar. Having seen the afore-posted ping pong balls on hats, I took a ping pong ball equivalent, cut it in half, bought a package of Scotch Reflective tape for $2 at the local hardware store, covered the outside of the hemisphere, and attached it to the front of the mic.

This last method has proved to exceed all expectations. Now, when going into the Tracking software and going to the Camera View, it shows up as a HUGE green blob no matter how I turn my head. More importantly, in the game now checking my 6 is easy.

So for $10 you can get a cheap headset/mic combo (go USB if you can afford it), $1 for ping pong balls, $2 for reflec tape. Cheaper than the hat and more functional.

Plus, I don't get hat hair!

YMMV http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I've had trackir for a month or so and I use 1 small dot on the end of the mic on the headset and it works fine.I sit 2-3 feet away and have no problems at all.
It's awesome
