The super unique Fw 190D-13 "Yellow 10" is finally beginning to look like her old self. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-happy.gif She will be restored into flying condition but she will most likely never be allowed to fly, at least not by its owner.

Well, that's good news, but my opinion is that it's a planes profession to fly...

Not letting an a/c fly anymore is like cutting abird's wings....

What's the point of restoring it to a flyable condition if it isn't going to fly!

The owner believes that since it is the ONLY FW 190D-13 in the world, it'd be a crime to fly it. It is simply too unique. I for one tend to agree with that, even though I would love to see it airborn. They will be doing motor run-ups, but that's about it.

Luckily Flugwerk is making a D-9 aswell as a D-13 replica, and these WILL fly, with original Jumo engines, yummy! http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Would give many things to see it flying. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-sad.gif

Heinkel He111 and Me262 crashes showed that those planes still can fall out of the sky.

IMHO it should be atleast given the test flights to be certified. And of course photo'd from every possible angle! Ineed to win the lottery so I can buy one of the Flugwerks' birds. I'd also like one of the ME-262's.
I can dream can't I?

Its like the ocsar that was restored in New Zealand , it was considered to rare (the only one of its model in the world) to risk it being lost in a crash.
it breifly left the ground during a taxi run at the 98 war birds over Wanaka but thats as far as it got as it has been sold to an "undisclosed buyer".

"The owner believes that since it is the ONLY FW 190D-13 in the world, it'd be a crime to fly it."

And he's right.

Too many unique warbirds have been crashed by gonzo pilots thinking that a WWII fighter could be flown like an F-16!

The Ki-43 is now in the Paul Allen's collection and I hope too it will never fly again!

Geez and wouldnt it be something if the building its in catches fire and the plane is destroyed. And i only say that to make this point things can happen anywhere. Be it in the air or on the ground.

Its just like buying a 50,000 dollar car just to keep it in the garage.

How cool is this?

We've gotten at least 10 replies and no one has suggested that they

take photos of the bar
measure the bar
check that the laws of refraction do/don't apply[/list]
Kudos to all.

Oh man, I'd love to be in your shoes lrrp!

What bugs me so much is that I was living in Phoenix for a year and a half and I never took the opportunity to go see it. I was really close once though. Me and friend were driving around one day and we stopped outside the Champlin museum. Unfortunatelly none of us carried enough money for the entry fee and so we just stood outside and looked at the Heinkel 111(which I had the chance to see airborn when it visited Deer Valley airport).
Hopefully I can save enough money for a return trip so that I can watch Yellow 10 in all her glory, but first I have to take mom to Graceland and see the former home of Elvis. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

I hope you take some good pictures and post them here lrrp! http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

+ take photos of the bar+ measure the bar+ check that the laws of refraction do/don't apply

Good suggestion! http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-wink.gif Just kidding, nobody needs to get all lathered up.

Although I must comment on the; check that the laws of refraction do/dont apply part.

Unless somehow the 190 alters the physics of light waves I would certainly think the laws of refraction thru glass apply.

Hi Guys,

Found this link which describes the building and conversion of the Hasegawa 1/32nd scale FW190D kit of the D13 which also includes a little bit on the history of the aircraft. Note the authors comments as to why it may never fly.

Hope it is of interest.

Wow! Thanks man! I've been thinking of buying that conversion set myself, and now I can see that it looks great! It's a must have!
