View Full Version : Anyway to get bombers to fly together?

When I fly bomber missions through the DCG campaign generator, my flights of bombers will take off and fly in groups of 4, but all of those groups won't form up for one massive formation. Is there anyway to get them to form up as one big group?

Not in DCG but in the FMB you can if you set up the waypoints right.

I build COOPs and DF maps. If you would like some of them you can get them atmy COOP page (http://www14.brinkster.com/triggerhappy770/default.htm)

I/JG1 Oesau is recruiting axis pilots who prefer to fly maximum realism. We accept both veterans and rookies. We fly in VEF2, VWF and may join other online wars in the future. Go to our forums at http://www.jg1-oesau.org/ for more details and to apply.

In the FMB, use the select target in the waypoint box to assign each flight of bombers to a lead flight. You do this just like you would assign escorting fighters to bombers. The bombers will then follow the lead flight. Use a minimum of waypoints for all "escorting" airplanes.

I'm a bit of a noob with the FMB but so far I've been using it to alter my waypoints for my campaign missions so there aren't any abrupt turns before the target and also so that I can get the bomber stabilized.

But with your suggestiong Zeus-cat, I've tried fiddling around but I'm not sure what I'm doing :} Can you help a bit further?

That's easy, you make your mission flight plan for the first flight of bombers. Once your done, you just create each other flight with a waypoint beside those of the leading flight, and "set" them to the waypoints of the leading flight. No need to give them target or anything, they will just do as the leading flight is doing. I find it to work well when i begin to "set" them in formation after take off, and break formation for landing.

Yeah, but he really wants is those formations to be so close as to 'merge' in a big formation of more than four...

...but formations always get either too far or at different speeds, so you can make them all fly along, but not really together.

Sorry... http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-sad.gif

Anyway, as the friends above have said, you can get aceptable results with careful planning in FMB.

Not sure how important the takeoff is...but there is always the option of starting out in the air. Then you can take the flights of bombers, set them at the same speed, and move their starting waypoints close together. Then they will fly in formation.

No need dux, once your bombers flight will be "set" together, they will fly in one huge formation. I already did it in missions i builded, it work perfectly.

But is this for building individual missions? What about campaign missions? If I open those up the way points for each bomber in my flight are already laid atop each other.

How about someone posting a mission where the birds all fly together so those of us less talented can "see" what y'all are talking about.

Thanks.
