View Full Version : Warclouds historic server (toh?)

Well tonight I just had the best flying experience ive had in probably over a month, when there existed a dedicated server patch and greatergreen was around.
This server is nothing short of spectacular.
Historic planesets, great maps, and plenty of ground targets. My only earlier complaint about warclouds when they first appeared in HL were that the bases were 10 squares apart. Well they (sparx?) did the community a favor and fixed this. Now I have absolutely nothing to complain about. Ive talked to people in the server that waited up to 15mins clicking rejoin to get in and they all said it was well worth the wait.
If you are looking for action in a full real environment with 29 pilots, look no farther than warclouds_toh.

War clouds is always fun, but sometimes it gets boring without you there to make fun of me http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

I much prefered the 'TOH' (touch of history server), it was, imho, far better than the other Warclouds to date. Well done maps and good fun mission objectives, as well as very reasonable performance (flak guns are the culprit, imho). Starting to get worth the donation.

IMO best server in a long time, its only one of the few servers that makes DF rooms still great fun
i really like it that they put a rotating defence/offence objectives for each side

a big thanks to all who makes it possible

S~ all. Glad you are all enjoying the server. I have always wanted to put a server up like this one. I tried it a few times in the past, but to no avail. No one would ever fly on it. The demand always seemed to be for a Server with full planesets. But it really makes me happy to see that its getting the players now. I hope to see all you on there very soon, at this moment real life has kicked in and free time is at a minimum.

Swiss and I are working on some more missions. I just hope we can get them done before you all get bored with the current ones. Making the maps/missions is probably one of the most time consuming parts of hosting. If anyone is interested in helping out making some missions for the server, please contact me. YOu can find my contact info on the main mission briefing page of each map. I do have some things that i require when building maps for the server. They are not too restrictive, but they are needed to keep the server performance. So keep an eye out for some more upcoming missions. I know that Swiss as some British vs Germ maps in the making, and i plan on continuing the current "campains" (if you wanna call them that) in the Pacific, Normandy, and Easterfront theaters.

S~ happy flying

S!

As I told sparx, I think the TOH server is the best server online as of now. The missions are nothing short of astounding and its all I fly on now. The normandy maps are getting a bit boring cause they're rotated in so often but I love all the other ones. My favorite so far would have to be the russian winter one however-awesome planesets!!! The pacific map is awesome as well. Great job sparx http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif and mcswiss http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Yes definetly, the best server to date. I picked up bad habits using that ugly F6 http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/784.gifkey in other servers. Dont hate me I couldnt help myself http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_frown.gif. WarClouds servers are helping me kick that bad habit and making me a better pilot. Keep up the good work, I havnet been able to get my donation across yet but it will be sent in the coming weeks. I am currently looking into making missions myself to share with the DF servers. Thanks for taking your time Sparxs, and the others behind the scenes, for giving so much to the community.

Kudos for Sparx!

I flew in it today, and I noticed something for me. I usually ping around 20, but I get warp.. Well, after externals were shut down, no warp.. go figure.

The server played smooth as glass. And it was totally fun!

It is a joy to see a server with no externals.

Hope we see more - it ruins the immersion with F6 for sure.

Thanks to Sparx for contributing your time and energy to make this nice server for the community to enjoy - Salute!

Salute!

only thing is with the winter maps i cant tell the ground from the sky. but i like seeing russian planes and not just german vs american planes. becaues it is a russain sim afer all, maybe ti will be better after teh patch and the guns are back to normal.

GK: only thing is with the winter maps i cant tell the ground from the sky.

I used to have that exact problem; very disorientating. And I also wondered how my squadmates could navigate on these maps so well. But after I turned ground shading up a notch it was much easier. I use a GFTi6400 with openGL and have LandShading=2 in the conf.ini.

I'd like to see the Warcloud servers getting rid of the icons. Without icons, it would be perfect.

I too like flying with icons off, but IMO if there are icons then Warclouds have the distance limits and colours just right, so I'm happy with them as they are.
Cheers!

On a different note, I must say, I enjoyed this server more last night than I have in the last few weeks on other Warclouds servers. The warp was minimal (I flew there for over three hours so it wasn't sporadic) and the planesets were competitive.

It's sort of become my "flying" home-away-from-home....geez, where's that dedicated server?

Sparx......WarClouds is my favorite server. I love the icon settings jsut like they are. Very good planesets. There is somethig for everyone there. I have enjoyed many hours on all of the servers. The only complaint i ahve is that i'm having so much fun that the map rotation seems too short. ~S~ tho.

Agreed on the map rotation...seems a little short. Otherwise, settings and playability are quite good.

Have to agree with everyone...great server.

On the the maps last night, with the allies landing supplies on a french beach was just a blast!
110's, Ju87's, P39's, 51's, 109's all mixing it up while the blues trying to wipe out the trucks on the beach.

Thanks and keep it up!

S! SPaRX on running a great server, I have really enjoyed my time there recently. S! to Tully for making me feel like Im worth my salt when I got it handed to me on a platter by so many good pilots there. Really fun server I have allways enjoyed historical matchups. One suggestion though is that with the popularity the maps tend to ratate a little fast. A whole days flying and I dont think I got 2 full sorties in on any one map http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_frown.gif Oh and flying brewsters agains Zekes was a riot. Keep up the good work...

I've always been a no icon guy, but these are by far the best icon settings I have seen. Very short distance, and no color. Its very easy to lose someone with icon settings like that, Very well done server master.

I've praised this server in the past as well, was sorry to see externals gone but now that I have my trackIR I'm enjoying the missions more than before. Excellent rotation and great plane-sets.
Just last night flew in the crazy Pacific mission with Brewsters and P40s VS The Zero and He111...it was a blast..thanks............
