Well, got BOE. I`ll be interested to try Starshoy`s Campaign`s and see how it all works (although i`m still on my main Soviet campaign). It`ll be nice to see the box B17s. I`ll be REALLY happy when Starshoy has integrated British aircraft and even allowed AI Me163 and Go229s as opponents to deal with... please (well at least AI ME163 which really did attack B17s)? http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/11.gif

To be absolutely honest I`ve bought this just to help these guys who deserve some credit for their work!

Now to install! http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

This is a good enough reason, but I'm looking forward to the content.

This delayed release of BoE in the US is pure Horse Hockey! http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/icon_twisted.gif

Bearcat, will BOE mess up FB 2.0?

And another question, has anyone tried the Online Campaign with AEP?

There's so much going on here in the Forums it's hard to keep track of it all. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/53.gif

BoE can mess up AEP, but I understand it is a rare occurance. My install got hosed, but others report no problems.

Bought it in Game today, last one left, she told me... hmm Saleswoman ploy I wonder? She needn`t have bothered cos I would have bought it anyway. Interestingly, she was the only one who immediately had a clue what i was talking about compared to the others who appeared dazed...
I managed to fox her though by asking about rudder pedals! http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-tongue.gif She was pleasant enough.

Anyway...
Just flown my first P51 escort flight over what seemed about 20-30 B17s in formation. There were around 8 P51s and we were attacked by around 8 FWs. It was quite a change from the low altitude dogfights I`m used to. It was very nice to see all those B17s opening up when the Axis arrived. We made it to Caen and I don`t think one B17 was shot down. I got one kill.

Was quite surprised by the lack of slowdown, even when the battle started.

Very nice work. Now all we need are some British aircraft...

You should try that mission from the German perspective....

Shooting down a B17 in formation is a lot of fun:

To all who have BoE or about to get it... have fun!

I for myself won't buy that thing. It simply can't compete with a REAL add-on like the official AEP. And I don't have any money to spend just to buy this thing out of pure goodness.

No offence against the 3rd party guys who worked on BoE, but to be honest, you won't get my money for this.

One question - what are the USAAF medals like (I guess you can understand why I'm asking)

I'm wondering whether to backup my existing USAAF medal files...

Baldie, were you able to figure out the cause of your problem? So far, games, add-ons and patchs have all installed on my XP without trouble. But think I'll back everything up this time...just in case. My BoE will be here by the weekend (I hope).

If you have 1.22 you are already enjoying the work of the BoE team.

They created normandy, ardennes, the b-17, the battleship Tirpiz, and a whole lot more and GAVE it to Oleg for free incorporation into 1.22. They had to license the dev tools, it cost them $$$$$ and alot of their time.

The boe team has added to the enjoyment of people who will never purchase boe.

Boe is not a joke. It's a proper expansion pack that brings western front action to FB.

AEP is an addition to the eastern front campaign. While complimentary, its a different experience than BoE.

Great interview regarding BoE, http://www.simhq.com/_air/air_110a.html

Well, I was pleasantly surprised to see all the American medals, I`m no expert on authenticity, but they looked realistic. I was even more pleased to see a whole new row of American faces for my wingmen pilots in the Roster. I was in there too, but looked a bit strange in a Russian hat and coat! LOL!

Voices were all changed to American too from the English pack I was using.

Go to your PlanesUSA.dat file and add the planes you want to fly. The syntax for the Spits is:

SPITFIRE5B
SPITFIRE5BCLP
SPITFIRE5BLF
SPITFIRE5BLFCLP

I don't see what would be historically wrong with flying a Spit in the Eagle Squadron! http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_eek.gif

BTY Simon, they changed the medal order, You get a bronze star now after your 3rd kill. I would suggest you back up your awards file & see which is better. I haven't looked at the medals yet.

Yes it is that easy, but you have to start a new campaign & select the Spits, of course. I will play around with a British Campaign tonight but it may have to wait for Starshoy to bail us out.
Oh yea, the planesUSA.dat file is for the P-51 fighter camapign and the planesUSA_j.dat file (or something like that, I am at work now) is for the P-47 fighter bomber campaign. You can add them to both.

I believe my problem had to do with campaign files.

I had another campaign generator installed and I believe it was the reason for my problems.

I had DCG installed on one computer and I did not restore the back-up DGen file before I installed. The new planes installed but the new campaigns did not. I will follow the directions next time.

Simon,

According to contemporary British reports, USAAF decorations could be had by simply opening a box of Cracker Jacks. One gets the impression that from 1942-1945, "the candy with the prize inside" was a primary means of distributing Air Medals.

Seriously, though, I'll bet if you checked the US Air Force website, or with USAF personnel stationed near you (I'm assuming you're in the UK), you'll be able to obtain a poster of US decorations (medals and ribbons) for Public Relations purposes. I know that such things are posted in base administrative centers everywhere in the US military.

If you're lucky, you can link up with a base PRO with an historical bent and find the authentic wartime medals and ribbons info.

cheers
