Trying to fly a campaign as an IL-2 pilot in Leningrad. Is it required that a mission is successful to continue to the next mission? I've got a mission that I don't think I can win, as our flight of IL-2s is unescorted and a flight of Bf-109s is waiting. We all get shot down before we leave Russian airspace. I get out of the plane without dying, but it won't let me continue, even though I survived... Is there a way to proceed?

If u not going too far (i mean your canpaign) than delete it and go to 'difficulty setting' unclip the 'no instant success' buttom.

This what i did on every campaign. Maybe some other expert here can give u more info about this.

try taking off doing a quick circuit and landing again immediately

There should be an extra difficulty setting that if u did that u would get executed. Perhaps a switch called NKVD/Gestapo On http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/88.gif

well in a fighter campaign you can usually either climb above your airfield to gain an altitude advantage or head off in another direction altogether and then ask ground control for fighter support and all the fighters in your wing will divert to your new location. This can often change the outcome of amission substantially.

But I have no idea what would happen in a bomber campaign if you did that.

This is a case where you have to "game" the game. I'll bet anything this is an airfield raid mission. When you get jumped by the fighters DON'T drop your bombs and join the fray. Circle around the periphery of the fray and pick off any strays that try to make a break for it. When the battle ends, head straight for the target, low and fast. Try to maneuver out of range of AAA and look for the primary target. Then attack low and fast, jinking through the AAA. Salvo your bomb load by thinking "one, one thousand one" and then get out of AAA range low, fast and jinking. When out of effective range, turn and make a run back at something, I prefer to go after the AAA. Hit them with rocket salvos and cannon fire. Egress fast, low and jinking. And then, get out of Dodge. There is nothing you can now do except get shot down. Find your return flight path and head home. Before landing, make sure you get rid of any rockets you might still be carrying. If you blow your landing, they will explode and kill you. This should pass the mission.

Thanks for the info... I'm trying to difficulty setting change suggested by Ltdavis... If it works I don't feel bad about it, because even great pilots got shot down from time to time and not all missions are successful. LOL not that I'm a great pilot...

It WAS an airfield raid, but even so, I couldn't even get to the airfield, as the 109s bounce us about halfway to the target.

The dynamic campaign generator is amusing from time to time..

In my HurriIIc campaign I got a mission that was a "CAP" over an enemy truck convoy... My flight got to the patrol area with no problems, then continued to circle and circle the area with no action at all.. So I dove down and wiped out the convoy (and my ammo hehe)... Then got curious and kicked the time compression up to 8x, left and ate dinner. Came back and the flight is still circling the same are.. this went on until all planes ran out of fuel.

Did this happen while you had this campaign active and installed an AEP patch? Ive had a problem with campaigns after installing a patch but it only affected the following mission. Example: 110(flying) mission-escorted by 109s, patched to 2.01, next mision 110 mission(flying)-escorted by 110s, attacked by P40s and La5s. Following mission, went back to 109s escorting. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/blink.gif Had a wierd one where my P40s in Leningrad where escorted by U2s http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/blink.gif instead of the other way around.

thefish7,

You have another option. Open up the campaign file in FMB and delete the German 109s or move their flight path away from you. This isn't hard to do even if you have never used the FMB.

E-mail me at zeuscat@sbcglobal.net if you need more instructions on how to do this.

If I don't like the way the mission is laid out, I change it.

-Gandalf

I know, but real WWII pilots had more realistic missions than Starshoy's Dgen generates for us!!! I mean seriously, the Ruskies did not leave their IL2s so open to attack. They had such a thing as escorts.

Meh. On occasions such as this, (I once had to play a mission nine times before I FINALLY decided it wasn't beatable)
I follow this procedure:

-From mission start
1. start engine

2. apply throttle and hard left or right rudder.

3. taxi out of the flight line.

4. Apply brakes until stopped.

5. Bail out.

6. Claim there was a dangerous snake in your cockpit.

7. Hit Apply. (Or you can let them run the mission and get killed, but I prefer to just fail the mission and keep my squaddies)

Later,
Ak

the most amusing dynamic mission i ever got was 4 gladiators sent up to intercept 4 pe8's level bombing at very high altitude

like ummh yeah wave as they fly past http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

That's if the Gladiators can catch the Pe-8. Most likely the Gladiator pilots will cath cold instead for flying too high. I even can't catch those Pe-8 flying super high in a Fiat 50.

Me:"Do you see that pilot flying the Spitfire in the photo above?" [Brief pause] "That's not me"
Girl of my dream: "So you're the one taking the picture?" [Hopeful and interested]
Me:"Nooo, i'm the one who lent the camera" -God bless you all!

I don't know if this works with the Aces pack but if you crash or bail out in friendly territory, even with the 'No Instant Success' switched on, you can go on to the next mission by watching the remaining fight at 8x compression and waiting until EVERYTHING has landed or ditched. It's tedious but it usually works. I haven't got AEP installed due to having just had my system brought back to life and playing with settings etc, but worth a try...
