Oleg's post does not mention the best Nvidia drivers for older OS's, only for XP. Any Win98/ME users know the best drivers for FB??

OK - a newbie question here - I thought that drivers are specifically related to one's video card. Therefore you go with the manufacturers driver. Am I correct?

Or is there a software upgrade here that I'm missing out on?

No, you are wrong, sort of!! Yes drivers are different for every card if you install the video card manufacturers own versions. For example, if you have a Asus card, you can install the version Asus ships in the box, usually on CD-ROM. But most people these days, in the case of Nvidia, go directly to the Nvidia website and download Nvidia reference drivers, which work for any card with a Nvidia GPU/chipsetno matter what brand of card it is. They will
work for an Asus as well as a Leaktek or Visiontek.
All the way back to TNT cards even. They only differentiate between the Operating systems. Like XP as opposed to Windows 95/98/ME. This is why I asked about ealier Windows versions, since the ones Oleg recommends are for XP only, as far as the Nvidia ones. It's as if Oleg assumes everybody has upgraded to XP. Ain't no way I'm getting XP!!

The 45.23 and 45.33 are very similar and both work well in FB.

Starting with the basics, for 2k/xp you want 45.23.

http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp-2k_45.23.html

The same applies for 95/98/ME.

http://www.nvidia.com/object/win9x_45.23

From the nVidia homepage:

Windows XP/2000 - Graphics Driver
Display Driver Version: 45.33

First WHQL driver release to support Personal Cinema GeForce FX products
Integrated kit that contains the display driver and WDM driver.

ALSO, There is a 765Kb pdf file, nVidia driver release notes v45.23

http://download.nvidia.com/Windows/45.23/NVIDIA_Driver_Release_Notes_v45.23.pdf

which will explain in detail what the 45.23 drivers address, correct, and have issues with.

ALSO, Display Properties User's Guide (v45.23), 7.68mb.
