I was flying a QMB using a Hurricane MK.I 1938 against four 109E4s. I shot down two and damaged this one. I checked it out and paused it when I saw the damage that was done.

This game is soo amazing, I keep finding all kinds of goodies like this everyday almost.

Edit: BTW, what do you use to make the pic show on the page, is it the tag address or the img address?(photobucket)

Yeah, I've had that happen before. Surprised the hell out of me! I was certainly impressed by the detail. So far that's the only a/c that I've seen which can have the cowl almost ripped off like that.

Yes, truly amazing.

But nothing new really.

Must be a hit point for the E-4.

Ever been in the Bf109 with that damage. I have after fighting against some Hurricanes. I shot them down, but my cowlwing was almost falling off like that and my engine was slowly losing power. I got back to France and landed on the beach though.

Yeah, I was having fun keeping it in the air. Combat flaps and all. I think I broke up trying to land on a road.

It'll also throw the cowling if you really, REALLY over-rev the engine and blow it out good. Like 10,000 or so rpm.

Have you ever noticed that if you crash and smash into little pieces your custom skin is still recognisable down to the smallest bit of the plane?
Things like that are neat.

the cowling damage like that was allready in the original Il2 right from the beginning(correct me if im wrong)
but its a very neet detail

@seafire

esp. when i crash with my own made skin and see it in little bits http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

I had an amazing thing happen. Was in IL~2 and my wingman collided (older version of FB) and surprise
I did not explode but my engine cowl too got bent out of shape like that. I was amazed
(...actually, more amazed that wingman collided with me and I survived to land easily).

I was Happy. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Thanks for the tip on the pics wayno777. I have flown the original IL2 and FB from the beginning but I had never seen anything like this, I guess in terms of this game and all the small features Im still a n00b. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Yes the damage model is of unprecedented detail and is what makes the game elite in my opinion.

Never seen these pics in the past either, thanks for sharing... now your engine runs cooler! http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/34.gif http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

This particular bit of damage modeling has been with us since the introduction of the flyable Bf 109E in one of the patches for the original Il-2 Sturmovik. It's always a kick in the pants the first time you see it, though.

Spectacular yes, realistic, no way...

The slipstream would tear the cowling right off, if it were damaged in the way depicted.

It is always the little cool details that make you glad you bought the game. Haven't seen that one but was on the receiving end of the Jug's vanishing gunsight after taking a head on pass.

Yeah, come to think of it he was at about 1000m and dove http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_eek.gif, he was riding the deck pretty fast, took me a while to catch up.
