Can you let us know everything whats being worked on please. Is it too much to ask for a list of all fms and other bugs being worked on besides a message

sound being work on

I have been playing fb less and less lately and would like to have some info and know whats going on to keep me interested in this simulation.

I agree.

The "beta" patch was thrown to us because the situation was degenerating (long wait, very little if any official info led to angry posts..); but, it was said that it was "new ground", and that the dev team would have exploited that very same situation to improve the game. Hence, the beta testing.

Cartrix even apologized for the lack of info.

However, since then it's been almost like before: little to no info. By the way, we are still waiting for the "quick" sound fix (heck Oleg, we said "yes" when you asked if we minded testing it /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif ).

So, before the situation is reset to start of august, can someone in-the-know please say something? Thunak?

Unfortunately we've taught 1C a valuable lesson and that is the more information they give us, the more we will pick apart every word they say to the point that it becomes not worthwhile to say anything at all.

It shouldn't be surprising. Politicians learned this lesson many, many years ago and to this day have thier speeches written for them and every word gone over with a fine-toothed comb lest those words can be twisted to lose thier original intention.

The good ol' days of Oleg dropping by to chat about flight models or finer aspects of the game are now a thing of the past.

Yes, it is sad.

Prik, honestly, there's people handling much more sensitive information with much more success than what's happening with this sim.

The sim community may be vocal, angry, picky, childish, distasteful if you want, but it's in no way hopeless.

Of course there are many ways to say something.. I don't think Oleg or even UBI tried them all.

As an example, see Oleg asking if we wanted to test a new "quick fix" sound patch.. Did you hear anything from the man since then? Neither I. It's a little thing but it's indicative.

Please note that I have the highest admiration for the man, and for his (and his colleagues) work. I can't seem to have enough of this game, despite its shortcomings. I will surely buy both its RTS game and the next sim (not to mention the addon for fb), the day they come out.

Another example: who would have a problem if Thunak published a small report on what things have already been addressed, along with the pics he's being publishing? We're so thirsty of information we'd be happy just with a couple of lines. But no, the forum is left void of information. And that leads to speculation, anger, etc.

Well, I think most software is beta because it is continually being updated - look at MS operating systems, for example. People are always finding faults with software which needs to be changed or when new requirements are identified.

Programming games is only slightly different from building system for organisations. The major factor with games is that newer technology is continually being introduced allowing increased functionality and graphical capability. That is why FB was born out of IL2, though, the actually game is not too different. Another limiting factor is the time spent on building great software and the money that people have to buy it or to purchase the hardware to make it run. Perfect software is practically impossible and even if it could be done, the time taken to produce it would then price out the intended market.

I'm disheartened by the lack of response from Oleg on this as well but I give him the benefit of the doubt based on things we don't know about his situation including the fact that he hasn't been well lately, or perhaps they found that the fix wasn't a simple 15 minute solution after all. It may also be that the final 1.2 patch is close to being ready anyway and it's just less confusing to put it in there.

Honestly, I don't know but the point is we have to refrain from jumping to conclusions and getting all pi$$y over it, at least at this point. It sure would be nice to have better communications though!

Agreed again! I have months of flying before I touch on all aspects of this game despite it's problems so I guess I'm just not as impatient over it as others who play it more than myself.

I think that would be great but I doubt Thunak has the inside ear on all of the progress (or lack of for the skeptics /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif ) going on at 1C. Isn't he an UBI forum moderator? Well, if he does have the information and is allowed to share it I think that would be great.

Probably I'm reading too much into things, but the fact that Oleg has been switching publisher (for the RTS) may have hampered communications between dev team and UBI.

Frankly, Thunak may be new, but a week has passed and no sign of life from him.

Looking at the little disaster with the update, he may be young and / or not expert of the web.. so Thunak, if you are reading this.. Don't be discouraged! We all expect a lot from you! /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

We pay 400 dollars to be Open Beta Tester for ATI and Nvida and we like it. /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-surprised.gif

Patch is better than 1.0 so if FB ends here, I would be Happy. I won't really enjoy FB until I get my Athalon 64 running at 100GHz cos then I can sim a few hundred aircraft over the entire map.

***Plugged my old DOS disk in with Flanker 1.0 into my Athalon 1700+ board and one of my old mass missions that just showed the beginning of stutter with 100+ aircraft (Pentium 133MHz) ran smooth as silk with 16x time accelaration. I can wait for 5 years to start playing FB if I have to. /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

AMD is planning on Athalon64 being able to boot up in pure MSDOS too. So I will be running 64bit computer to run 32 bit DOS extender (Flanker 1.0) on 16bit operating system.

If I really wanted to sound stupid, I would brag that I paid 400 dollars to be video card Beta Tester.

Gotta agree. I put sound up when it dims. Fly over harbour- BOOOMM!

After I pick up my headphones and myself off the floor I`ll wait 5 minutes for the ringing to stop then get back to the sim and BOOMM! BOOOMM! BOOMM!
