While ratting through some old boxes I found my old collection air war comics. Some of the cover art is really good so I thought I would post them here. Might give people ideas for scenarios?

First one is Mighty Mike. Two brothers separated my ideology join opposing airforces when the war breaks out and fight each other in many air duels, using more and more advanced aircraft until at the end, the evil Nazi - Carl is killed by a quirk of fate.

Thanks a lot! I love them http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I actually found loads two weeks ago in a Oxfam. I'll scan them and post them here. Some of the covers are great. But there's lots of great vignettes inside.

And the titles always put a smile in my face http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

"The Magic Eye" (radar Beaufighters)
"Wings of the Fleet"
"Wingless Wonder"
"Black Squadron"

I love these things. I grew up on them. In Australia of course, the prices were in cents although the cover art still included the English prices. Last one I bought was 35p on the cover. Shows you how long since I had one. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

My favourite was not a Commando brand but one of the other comics called "K for Killer" about a seemingly cursed Lancaster.

Thanks guys. Good memories http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

My God! I've still got a copy of Mighty Mike somewhere!

I remember K for Killer too. Didn't it start off its spree by jumping the chocks at the factory and killing a mechanic before being delivered?
Heh. I suddenly remember the end that shows K after it ditched with the wing just dissapearing below the surface. At the age of ten I thought that was a really spooky story.

A lot of the guys at work grew up on these too. Mostly we remember them for their campy-imperialist overtones.

One I particularly liked was "I was a Nazi General" about a red headed British private who bears an amazing resemblance to Germany's youngest General. He is conned into crossing the lines to impersonate him while the real general defects. There is a great bit at the end when our hero makes a dash back to the British lines.
Sprinting across no-mans land he is spotted by german soldiers who give the alarm "Gott und Himmel!" (they're always saying that) "Herr General is attacking the enemy alone - Lets go! " Our boy finds himself leading a Nazi charge.

I found some cover scans here:

It'd be great to find somewhere that whole stories scanned in though.

Cheers!

This is the stuff I grew up and learned my drawing from. From before the age of 7 at least my mother says, I don`t actually remember when I started drawing. I also was a great fan of Battle too.

Good stuff.

There was one particular artist / story teller who wrote for Command that was so precise and excellent, I only bought his books. The examples I've shown were his/hers?

Excellent story lines, Pity you cannot recreate them within IL2. I could create a dog fight between a squadron of Zeros, led by the black zero, and spitires, led by a P40 Ace but there's no way of creating a story line over a certain period. Create your own comics!? http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

PS, I want to Launch a HURRI or FULMAR off a Corvette in Atlantic scenario! http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Hey. If ever I want to do something different, alternative, I always create my own stories, especially since its hard to find a good writer to work with - so go for it!
