Rogue runs well except the jagged lines are just as bad as the console on good setups. FXAA is not the top end.

Anyone see options other than FXAA?

FXAA is indeed the worst AA method.

SMAA is the best AA method out there and you should be able to force it with SweetFX or just inject it in the game (http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=42272877&postcount=4640). It has almost no performance impact and it looks better than MSAA and FXAA.

Some people also like the look of TXAA although I think it just blurs everything. Sadly for the people who do like TXAA you can't force it... The game needs to have built-in support for TXAA and Rogue does not.

So in terms of AA you could keep using the crappy FXAA option or try SMAA.

Another thing you could do is use DSR (Dynamic Super Resolution http://www.geforce.com/hardware/technology/dsr/technology). If the game runs very good on your pc then you could try DSR through the NVIDIA Control Panel. It also helps removing jaggies. It does have a huge performance impact.

Anyways, please let me hear if SMAA or DSR worked for you. I am also thinking of buying Rogue and I would like to know if SMAA or DSR works because it just looks like crap with FXAA.

Yes. I cannot stand there is no TXAA or MSAA. thanks for the DSR link :) I'll check when I'll be able an let you know.

EDIT:

So, I was able to play with 2x DSR and the game looks much better, however... I play at 2560x1440 with GTX980 with constant 60fps in Rogue and with 2x DSR frames dropped even to 40fps (in boarding fights) ofc all settings highest.

I just found out about SweetFX I will try it with RadeonPro and report back.

On AMD cards there is a Virtual Super Resolution function similar to the DSR. 1440p the game runs fine almost looks like the Black Flag visuals.

The vegetation looks even more dull on DSR mode but the game textures are very sharp. I think there was a decision made by Ubisoft to tone down the vegetation and also the draw distance. Maybe we will see patches addressing the pop-in issues.

That was the cool thing about BF. I know some of the settings would let the frame rate dip near vegetation but forcing Triple Buffering worked and I am happy with that game finally.

Specs:

i7 2770K, R9 290X, 16 GB 1600 RAM

Yeah, DSR tanks FPS like crazy.

Thanks! I think SMAA injection using SweetFX is gonna be the way to go especially because it has almost no performance impact and is highly customisable in SweetFX. DSR/VSR has just a too big performance impact.

Well the thing is Rogue is ported from the last-gen consoles and Black Flag was ported from the "next-gen" consoles. Because Rogue is just ported from the last-gen consoles without any major graphical enhancements for PC you will indeed notice things like shorter draw distance. Also vegetation is a lot less impressive and for example does not move when you walk through. I think this also explains why we only have FXAA as AA method.

I didn't know there were pop-in issues. Is pop-in worse than in Black Flag?

Just one question. I cant seem to get SweetFX working, even in Black Flag. I assume it has to do with me having Windows 8.1, right ? I always get an error when starting the game...

For me sweetfx doesn't work either. I'm on windows 7, game starts normally but there is no change in picture. I tried all AC games. Other games works with sweet fx.

You can download SweetFX here:
http://forums.guru3d.com/showthread.php?t=368880

If you have trouble figuring out the instructions in the readme, here are some video tutorials:
What is SweetFX and how to install it:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v21m_p7d2A4
Adding tweaks:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UxFOx-9wZPM

You can tweak using the config file or using a SweetFX Configurator (GUI).
The reason you might not see any differences without or with SweetFX enable may be because you have not enabled any enhancements. We only want to use SMAA so enable and configure it in SweetFX, don't forget to disable in-game AA!
If the game does not start with SweetFX installed please remember that SweetFX is not compatible with any other overlay applications. For example: ShadowPlay, Fraps, RivaTuner Statistics Server etc...

Hope this helps. Installing and using SweetFX is not a difficult process once you understand it. :D
Many people use SweetFX on Black Flag and Rogue and it is proved that it works if correctly installed.

EDIT: It indeed seems many people have issues with SweetFX and Windows 8/8.1

Then it probably has to do with the fact that you are running Windows 8. A lot of people have issues with SweetFX + Windows 8. I can't help you with that.
Try to Google for solutions. There are also many people that have been able to get it working with Windows 8.

Cool, thanks for the link! It probably looks a whole lot better with SMAA, doesn't it?
Could you post some screenshots with in-game FXAA and SMAA? So that I can compare :D

Try overriding Anti aliasing with AMD Catalyst Control centre.

Try overriding Anti aliasing with AMD Catalyst Control centre.

Nvidia control panel enhance or override AA seem to have no effect.

Does anyone know how to force a better AA mode than FXAA on Rogue using just Nvidia products? I.e. Nvidia control panel, inspector, etc. without resorting to sweet fx?

A way to force SMAA would be great.

You can also force MSAA through Nvidia Inspector. MSAA does have a large performance impact.

1. Choose the Rogue profile in Nvidia Inspector
2. Set Antialiasing mode to override.
3. Set Antialiasing setting to the preferred AA method in this case 4x [Multisampling]

That should do the trick. I have not tested this method because I currently do not have the game at hand. If you try this method could you please report back if it works and how big the performance impact is and send some screenshots. I would really like to know if this works.
