View Full Version : I Give Up On Downloading The Patch....

....until I get cable. 3 unsucessful attempts, a total time of 30 hours wasted. 2 disconnects and 1 could not load because of corrupted file. I give up. Still enough to do in regular FB/AEP/BOE to keep me going for a while. I really think a disservice was done to the 56kers with this large of a download. It should have been segmented. Just my $.02 USD.

Give us some general idea of where you live (country, region) and I'm sure someone (myself if your in US) will be happy to burn the patch to disk and snail mail it to ya.

I used GetRight to download the patch with no problem whatsoever. Try turning off your firewall if you have it on. The only other thing I can think of is that your ISP might not be very good. Complain to your provider that you are having problems and you might see some improvement. It worked for me.

There is also Internet Download Manager. I used it till the trial period was up and it worked just fine too.

Hope this helps,
Rick

Well, I have MSN9. I did complain to them and they showed me a great way to go from 28.8 kps to 34.6. (dripping with sarcasm). I need to spring for the $60 USD a month cable and that's all there is to it.

I saw that someone had split the download up into 2 smaller downloads. I'm not sure who though. Maybe this will help... I saw it after I had downloaded the patch with Dial-up also. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-surprised.gifIt had taken me 24 Hours with 2 tries to get it right. So don't give up.

Hope you don't mind me taking advantage...

There are other download managers. I gave up on Getright a long, long time ago. There's LeechGet, Download Accelerator Plus, Fresh Download, and the one I'm using now (the one I used to get the patch from 3D Gamers) FlashGet. You need to try more than one thing before throwing in the towel.

I have dial up w/ 56k and usually average about 48k. It took about 6 1/2 hrs to down load the patch. It worked first shot no probs. Anyone else in the states need/want the patch, lemme know (I'm in Tx btw). I asked my computer jockey brother why they called it 56k if it never ran at that. He said that 56k was max capacity for the modem & that normal phonelines wouldn't run it @ 56k. I don't feel bad, his runs @ 28.8 http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

56k=56 kilobits, not kilobytes.

I'm on my fourth try. I use Meta Products Download Express. The first two times was my own fault. The third time it completed and shut down the comp. Somehow it was gone. So I started it again and right now it's at 63%. The main problem I run into on these large d/l's is Juno usually knocks me off for " not browsing!"
I guess that's what I get for $9.95 US/mon. Anyway it's still d/ling. Took me 4 days to get the Halo demo. That was 134MB. I wonder if PC Pilot will put this on their CD real soon?
