Always try to land with full (landing) flaps and yes, gear. A speed of 160 km/h is good enough to land most planes. Of course you got to have a steady hand.

Practice landings in the Il-2 itself. It is a great and forgiving plane yet, quite fast and manouvrable.

Just practice....dont come in too steep or too fast... take your time and give yourself room to get a good approach angle. Unless you are running out of fuel or damaged there is no reason to rush in....

I found the control for flaps - but something is bothering me. You set flaps for combat - for takeoff - and for landing. How can you be doing all three at the same time?
You're either taking off, fighting or landing.
I set flaps for takeoff and fly around.
If I raise my gear the plane starts honking so I put the gear back down which stops the honking.
If I hit the flaps key again I get landing flaps which slows the planes down a lot - so I mostly leave it with takeoff flaps. It seems to fly pretty well set up like that.

I almost landed last night. It was a gentler crash than I'm used to.

Thanks for all the help, guys...

What is honking bun bun?

tsisqua
12-31-2003, 10:36 AM
That warning horn drives me away from the 109's. Follow procedures. Raise your gear, and let it honk. When you have enough altitude, and speed, raise your flaps. The honking will stop (thank God).

Landing: your flaps in most planes have three settings available. Don't worry that it says "combat", it is just a degree of flaps that are extended. The bottom line is, you MUST slow the plane down. Extend flaps as you slow down. Flaps offer more lift (and drag) with the airplane travelling at slower speeds. Save the last "landing" setting for the final approach, and make sure that your gear is down. Watch a bird as it curls its wings when landing. Same thing. My cfi used to tell me that final approach should feel like you are on a ski lift that is on a wire, and on the way down. In other words, you are descending, even though you are not in a complete "nose-down" attitude. Ideally, you want to touch down on the first third of the runway. Keep your nose up, and allow the plane to sink down. Your trim can help you keep the nose up without having to keep back pressure on the stick. Your rudder can be used to help you slow the plane to a stop: left/right/left/right. Gently tap the brakes, or you will nose over in a tail-dragger. In a tricycle gear plane like the P-39 you can stand on the brakes, and have no problems.

Ahh, the eternal questions!

Trolling: posting stuff that is certain to create an uproar. Any post that begins with "As an ace who can score at will.." is Grade A trolling.

Vulching: A heros tactic. It involves swooping down on the enemy while he is taxiing, taking off, or landing, and putting a real hurt on his sorry arse. Only real men vulch.

Since nobody seems inclined to answer poor Cardinals question:

FB - Short for "Forgotten Battles" (the game).

While I'm at it:

BoB - Battle of Britain
The Med - The Mediterranean sea or Mediterranean Theatre of War
LW - Luftwaffe (German air force)
B&Z - Boom and zoom, a mode of flying, using mainly speed and height to kill while staying out of trouble.
VS - The Soviet air force (an abbreivation for something in Russian)

Just a quick correction: It's VVS, not VS, standing for "Voienno Vozdushnie Sili", or something like "Air Combat Force" translated.

Just using this to shamelessly bump this doomed thread http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Any ideas why? I set the video modes to the same as IL2 but this hasn't made a difference. PLEASE HELP!

You might need to ask this in the Tech Forum.

As to graphics settings for FB, you might find that you need to scale things down a little for FB as there is more detail than the original ame. Also stutter (if that's the cause of your problems) can be caused by your sound setup - maybe disabling extensions would help?

Like Extreme_One said, you might want to take this to the tech support forum.
Only thing I can add is go to "gaming options" in Windows (in your control panel. Name may vary according to version of Windows) and see if Windows recognizes the joystick's input alright. If you notice problems there as well, FB isn't at fault and you might need to contact your joystick manufacturer or just go to the store and replace it.
Hope you get your problem solved. Glad to see you here BTW http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Thanks for the welcome. I have one immediate question. I have run IL2 Sturmovik successfully for some time now but when loaded FB the joystick controls only respond intermittently (the weapons fire 2 seconds after i squeeze the trigger and the ailerons stop reponding at the most inoppurtune moments!). Any ideas why? I set the video modes to the same as IL2 but this hasn't made a difference. PLEASE HELP!

Hi all! I dont like to consider my self as a noob. I bought the game in June last year and since then it's the only thing I've been playing. In avrege it's at least an hour every day and I have came a long way from the "ammo wasting can't hit a thing how do you take off and land" flayer I was in the bigining and now it gives me great plesure to do a nice landing or even better to do a enormus deflection shot and blow someone from the sky. I must admit that I havent been flaying online to much (56k=kick). But when I do I get some nice kills and also get shot down regularly. All this has been achived trough a great amount of practice and regular visits to these boards. Which brings me to my noob question: I've been reading these boards for a lomg time and I've allweys wonderd what does LOL and IMHO mean.

Thanx in advance.

I fly German planes and the only time I can see the gunsites is when I'm in a turn. How come?

Hi Speco!
