This is probably a no-go but I would like to gauge some interest anyway. I'm want to gauge the amount of interest there is in recreating the famous raids carried out by 617 Squadron on the night of May 16th, 1943.

Imagine:
On the night of May 16th, 1943, nineteen Lancaster bombers took off from RAF Scampton in Lincolnshire. They had three primary targets: the M¶hne, Eder and Sorpe dams and two secondary ones, the Lister and the Eneppe dams. Of the nineteen planes, five would be held in reserve during the attacks. We could get night fighters involved!

I think that IL-2 Forgotten Battles is perfectly suited to this. It has the right amount of graphical detail, good flight model and already has search lights /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif (that could be used for a very special version of the Lancaster Bomber).

I realise that it would be a large amount of work but feel that it is especially relevent now there are pretty big hints of a western front appearing for IL-2 FB.

Questions:
1. Would the weapons modelling system be up to recreating the attributes of the famous bouncing bomb?
2. Would the mighty Gibbage be interested in modelling the specially modified Lancasters? (we need 'normal' ones anyway). It could add to your Donor-ware thing dude !

So, all of those in favour, say 'I' /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

the weapons could work, we have skip bombing already

the 'aiming' lights on the lanc could be modelled (landing lights)

a lanc is in progress (methinks) from someone at http://www.flugzeugwerk.net

A Dambusters flight-sim is about to hit the market. Probably it won't be a match for FB, but you'll get those Lancasters. /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

the project is called "target for tonight"- seems to have been on hold for a while though, unfortunately. Their lanc looked pretty sweet.

That would be great! My great uncle was one of the dambusters...but sadly he went down with one of the lancasters...I think he was navigator.

I have cockpit pictures taken from the Lanc at the Canadian Warplane Heritage if anyone wants them as well as engine sounds (they are only 8bit though). As well as rear gunner positions shots

I'm cool for it to say the least.

100% I.
Would we get a practice area in England as well? The timing would have to be just right in deploying the weapon. Great addition this would make.

Is there not a dam in the Stalingrad map?

In the mission building forum there's a thread describing how to make a (destructible) dam with other objects.

unfortunately it looks more like an opaque bridge than a dam (no difference in water level) and won't release a huge gush of white water when it's destroyed but maybe it would do...

I'd love to see such a thing.

Just Flight's Dambuster's addon for CFS2 was very good, despite the lameness of the underlying sim.

Best thing about it was that it also covered many other famous raids carried out by 617 squadron, including some of those carried out with the Tallboy - huge bomb designed by, again, Barnes Wallis.

Still think the best potentail addon though FB though would be ops in the Med /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif
