View Full Version : Ubisoft aren't focusing much on their important games

AC Rogue was developed by only 1 studio and at most 2 years of development cycle.
AC Unity was developed by whopping 10 STUDIOS and 4 years of development cycle.
AC Unity ended up as a buggy mess at launch with terrible story arc despite so many people working on it with so many years of experience and got the some of the worst review ratings in the franchise (As low as 4/10..and don't get me started on Metacritic's user scores: http://www.metacritic.com/game/playstation-4/assassins-creed-unity).
AC rogue ended up as a game with beautifully crafted story (albeit a bit rushed) with extremely tight controls and mechanics and had the best of AC 3 and Black Flag and got comparatively good reviews.
Why? Is it because too many cooks spoil the broth or that the devs of AC Unity (90% of Ubisoft) realized they had 4 years of development cycle and decided to make the development process slow and unfocused.... Sure Yves said that Unity's Anvil engine wasn't fully developed, but that shouldn't contribute to that terrible story writing and pacing, inconsistent controls, annoying stealth, solo=impossible coop missions etc.
Why Ubisoft? Why?

1 Cause naval!!!!! As simple as that.......I could quote the likes of Angry Joe and Total biscuit saying that, at least for them, No naval = no fun, and thus no party.
2 ACRo has the same combat system, and pretty much 90% stuff recycled form AC IV the second best received game in the franchise after AC II.
3 ACRo did not get much promotion, which means there are no big expectations.

On the other hand, Ubi bit off more than they could chew. Unity just wasn´t ready from a technical standpoint and should have NOT been released in 2014, period. You know, having a new crowd system, 1:1 buildings, graphics, customization, just to name a few, proved to be TOO much for this annual cycle. Plus there´s the weak story and the annoyances - many unfortunately, of not having that old combat system in which you could go through waves and waves of enemies without ANY challenge whatsoever since the very beginning of game, regardless of your gear and the enemy´s rank.

Finally, to me AC U tried to go back to the roots of being an assassin, gameplay wise at least, instead of creating a GTA in the past, which has been the main focus since AC II.

There´s your recipe for disaster......
