View Full Version : How to stop cheaters once-and-for all

Oleg, when a user hits the arming tab to choose a plane, there should be a button to start/stop recording. This button should be the only way to record a track. When flying online the quick record button must be disabled, and also the screenshot button. Now before anyone chips in with the " I don't want to record the whole session, just the takedowns", well, neither do I. However, I don't want to be on someone's six and then see them jumping all over the place and ruining my fun. Think about it. If the only time you can start and stop recording is at the refly/arming point, then scum won't be able to cheat with this bug. Also, if they want to take screenshots, they can do it from the track they recorded at the re-fly point. I only post this, as I am now frequently seeing planes warping all-over the sky, even on low-ping servers. PS, this means we can have the tracers back, thanks.

Sounds like a great idea to me! Would also be sorta cool to have tracks record automatically when you fire your guns, sorta like guncams, but this is a whole other topic...once again, I like the idea.

I think a much better solution would be for a messange to be printed in the public channel when the feature is used.

Maybe it's enough if they just edit it so that skins won't be saved on the ntrk-file. That way it won't cause that "lag" when starting the record.

Or maybe if the skins are saved to the ntrk when the track-recording stops, downloaded skins stay in the cached-folder anyway...

And for the screenhost, it might be a good idea to disable screenshots, but anyway, if you hit the printscreen, f***ing windows will save the screen to the clipboard, or if you use some third-party screenshot-software (like Fraps), it will cause the lag anyway http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

Edit: So maybe that public-message is the best solution to this problem, shouldn't be too hard to implement.
Other choise is to hunt down those cheaters IRL and give them a bullet to the head behind the sauna, there's always space left for few bodies.

Nice idea Mysticpuma, would like to see it implemented.

As an alternative I suggest this too.

How about a 10 second delay for quick-record? This would stop cheaters jabbing away at it when you are on their six. Nobody who records tracks needs to be able to start and stop recording in less time than this IMO.
People who jab away at quick-record are getting tracks that are no more than a fraction of a second long and causing warp/lag, so why allow it to happen? Who needs a track that is less than a second long?
Putting a timer delay on quick-record start and stop would solve this methinks.

With this implemented I would then like the screenshot key disabled too.
Only allow its use on track playback or offline play.

These two things I think would end the fun for these cheating scum.

I was on a server yesterday (same one you were on puma) chasing somebodys six. Everything was fine until I put a tracer across him which alerted him to the fact I was behind him. Then all of a sudden it was warp factor six. Jumping all over the shop he was. quick-record/printscreen or coincidental lag? The former I suspect.

The current implementations to stop cheating are not working IMO. All it has done is make 56k'ers suffer and remove tracers/gunfire from track playback.

I admire the efforts of Oleg and team in their attempt banish the scum of cheaters online. Currently though, I don't think those efforts have worked as they would have liked.

To summarise:-
10 second delay and no printscreen on live games (except offline or on tracks)! Simple http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif
Or as puma suggested, record only at the refly/arming stage but allow quick-record on track playback.

About tracks, would it be possible to add a small icon when recording a track? I often forget if i hit recording or not after takeoff resulting often in hitting it once again only to turn it off... "great, another 45 second track". Or at least some way to check if recording is in progress.

Snoop_Baron, your suggestion is very good.

"think a much better solution would be for a messange to be printed in the public channel when the feature is used"

This will expose those who cheat when someone is about to KILL THEM. The host can then warn the cheater or ban them.

Good thinking.

** It would be nice if we had the ability to EDIT the RECORDED NTK FILE, and to save or convert it to AVI. If this were possible, then the option for recording ON ENTRY OF THE GAME would work. Editing the file for those GUN KILS would be easy, and you would only save the frames you want.**

Nice idea but all the jumping around isn't just cheats, theres lag to contend with as well.

The problem is, a lot of people perceive cheating, when in fact, the problem is just lag.

Try out FighterJerks on HL and you'll understand.

I do shoot them all, but they're not where they were 'coz the use the lag cheat. Also I know lag can cause warping, but by using this feature, it's one less thing to contend with. Pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeassssssssssssssse Oleg!
