Hi, I'm playign FB now and I wonder if I should get the ACE now OR I should wait for the Pacific Fighters to be released later this year.

I heard there are going to be 2 installation versions of PF - with FE/AEP or stand-alone. I want to know if I DON'T get the AEP now, can I install the Pacific Fighters into FB directly? If not, I would rather get the AEP now so that I can play more on-line games on Ubi.Soft. Fewer people are playing FB!

What's the best solution to me, money saving wise? BTW, which version of AEP do I get (2.01?)? Thanks.

I would strongly suggest going ahead and grabbing AEP. If you do, it will install version 2.0. You'll then need to DL and install the AEP patch v2.01

Then DL and install patch v2.04 (there is NO v2.02 or v2.03)

you'll be up to speed and the delayed release of PF won't have as much impetus. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-tongue.gif

FP will install either by itself alone, or with FB/AEP. I think you may need AEP to make FB work with the FP-with-FB install.

Just do it and get it over with.

Lol, wonder what that FP game is... Facific Pighters? http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/88.gif

Anyways, my 2 cents on the topic: go get AEP now, and catch the current update patch so you can play online.

Once PF (Pacific Fighters http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif ) is released, grab that too.
Judging from the looks of things at the moment, you sure won't regret it.

My understanding (from Oleg's announcement) is that Pacific Fighters is still primarily a stand-alone sim featuring only the new stuff, but if you already own FB/AEP then you can install so that PF material and FB/AEP content mesh together for a mega-version of Pacific Fighters. (I say that because Oleg said the AEP menu is changed to Pacific Fighters menu).

In particular, note this paragraph from Oleg's announcement: "Others, who haven't not FB/AEP will be able to install PF as completely separate stand alone product which will feature only Pacific theater with the only content for this purpose (not small need to say!). Probably these that still haven't FB/AEP will look for activity and speeches on forums about "full" version and especially gameplay online and then will try to buy FB/AEP gold pack that to be able to play as others.... Also good plus for all."

So, I'd say its safe to get AEP now, as it appears Oleg is saying that PF won't ship with the FB/AEP product included within but instead will be made compatible to it.

Uhhh, I just re-read the initial question ... I don't know for sure but my gut feeling is that "FB/AEP" doesn't mean "you can choose either FB alone or FB with AEP." My reasoning is that Oleg states that there will be two lines of patches to support both stand-alone PF and also integrated PF; patches for FB+PF (but no AEP) seems unlikely, given the past history of stopping support for earlier versions of the series when the latest one is released to retail. Support for IL-2 stopped when FB was released; FB-only patches have ceased since the release of AEP.

As for which version of AEP to get, you'll need to start with the version on the retail CD-ROM. Then download the upgrade patches 2.01 and 2.04 and install after AEP is installed to FB.

As of late, Pacific fighters will come out as stand alone sim with two installation options. It will either install right into AEP or will install separate. So you will have to make a tough choice....
a) You get full blown WW2 simulation that includes ETO, WTO and PTO
b) You get PTO by itself and FB by itself, which is no longer supported http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Your call.

Kozhedub: In combat potential, the Yak-3, La-7 and La-9 fighters were indisputably superior to the Bf-109s and Fw-190s. But, as they say, no matter how good the violin may be, much depends on the violinist. I always felt respect for an enemy pilot whose plane I failed to down.

Il-2FB/AEP are really worth it... add PF to that and you get almost all WWII theatres. Mediteranean will arive later on.

Well Ive been using the IL-2/FB/Aces since the day it was released, and am looking forward to Pacific fighters, but only as a Mission Builder.

All my time is now spent using WWII Online, because it is the only current Online Virtual Battlefield running 24 hours a day 365 days a year.
AS good as the Il-2FBAces Pacific fighters is, and I will still use it, I reckon a Virtual Russian Front like Conered Rats WWII Online would be the Ultimate Gaming experince.
An Online real time battlefield.
If some one like Cornered Rat software can do that, why cannot 1C do it, I would start asking of Oleg Maddox!
The pay as you play plan with Cornred Rat Software is so cheap, and used by so many Globaly, that I am left wondering how much more time will pass before the Genius of Oleg Maddox is brought to a Virtual Online Battle Field, and why not where this all started,
A Virtual Online Russian Front!

Wulf, although BoB isn't massive online. susposedly it's going to support much more aircraft in the skies at once - we will see, but worth watching out for.

I guess the level of detail in this flight sim makes it tougher to have such a large set of aircraft flying at one time.

check out the online wars ,although not ww2online - they do well at trying a more persistent concept.

S! 609,
I was not talking about just aircraft, the detail on the Tanks AA guns transport vehicles.
I was talking an entire Virtual Online Battle field.
Conered Rat software has accomplished a massive multiplayer European Battle field with lesser Graphics than the Il-2 series.
As you know with WW2 Online you can be a soldier, drive a tank command an 88 At gun position or fly a plane, and these are only a few of the air Sea and ground options you can use, and everybody impacts on the this Virtual Battle field.

Why on Earth 1C is not headed in this direction already with their superior Graphics is beyond me.

Ivan;

I probably missed it someplace, but what you're saying is that I SHOULD be able to install PF right into FB/AEP, and would have all planes together?

Like I said, I probably missed it someplace...should I frequent the PF forums as well? If this is the case, well, I'm even more excited about PF. My 109s against F4Us...sounds like fun.

Thanks in advance.
