I recall your justification for the mk.V.. the VVS had a lot of them.. But Russia received far, far greater numbers of mk.IX spitfires than mk.Vs..(1188 vs.137) So i can't understand why the mk.IX isn't being modelled over the mk.V!
Difference in model is minimal, if you're working from where Biggs started.. there are only tiny alterations required.
(4 bladed prop and different exhaust vents)

It just seems more historically correct, besides.. the mk.V was never the belle of anyones ball.. About the only spitfire to be brought out and not enjoy any kind of superiority from the start. A stop-gap workhorse. (strictly speaking the mk.IX was also a stop-gap plane, but it's pilots we're happy with it & it played various roles throughout the duration of the war).

The spit is a legend.. a mk.V aint doing it justice /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-sad.gif

But it's up to you old boy. Just my 2 cents. /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-tongue.gif

Actually the Oil Coolers would need modification aswell. as exhaust stacks and propeller.

Also, the Spit V was one of the best spitfires, and was built in great Numbers.

The Spitfire V also came before the IX, so it makes sense really.

I'm just happy we're getting a Spitfire. If you kept up with the news you'd know why Gibbage was making the Mk V.Besides, who has said that a Mk IX isn't in the works anyway?
Keep your ear to the ground I hear a Merlin starting up.

Hold up guys that mkIX is already being done by Slava...its almost finished too...havent u seen the external pics yet??!!...geez, i wish slava would post now and then to show that hes still alive and kicking.
Gib can model the mkV, but he'll be stepping on Slava's toes if he starts the mkIX...BTW we my get the mkIX sooner then u think because Fievel (who is making the mkXIV) will be sharing his cockpit with Slava so he doesnt have to make one. so we might...MIGHT, get teh mkXIV and the mkIX together. one can only hope.

Johnny Johnson did the exact opposite, he liked the IX better than all later models, those were just too heavy.. Very much agree with him on that, a IX is much more manouveralbe, climbs just as well (at low alts, that what counts in Il2), and you are only slower than the XIV.

Mk.V was the most produced of any version of the spitfire.

i personally dont like the later spitfires for a couple of reasons:

the neutered wing tips, a spits wing is sposed to be a beautiful eliptical shape, cutting the tips off is horrible!

the teardrop canopy, the old style canopy looks so much nicer, who cares about visibility when youve got something that looks that good

and finaly because merlins sound so much nicer than griffons

Cowboy.. I know the mk.V was the most produced version.. but russia received more mk.IXs.. so if one wants to argue with numbers.. the mk.IX has more of a case.

And Leadspitter.. the battle of britain was over by the time the mk.V emerged. mk.Is and mk.IIs were the order of the day in that arena.

most mk.Vs had their wings clipped eventually.. improving low level performance.. I don't think it looks that bad. but i know what you mean.. You should see the hideous 'D' wing fitted to the F.21s onwards!

Damn straight

Wouldnt know about that but the merlin-equipped spitfires especially the later ones were said to have much more pleasant "lady-like" behaviour.
